:scared1: In my BEDROOM!!!!:scared1:

Ok...background: We've lived on the river for 8 yrs. We've had a mouse and a garter snake (:scared1: ) in the house~never a rat.

Two weeks ago, I went to my car (at 6am) to go to work and I told DH... "A rat ran out from under it". He said..."No, it was a bunny":lmao: Three days later....DH calls me into the bathroom (scary, I know) and says listen.......a scratching noise in the ceiling. Hmmmmm must be the "bunny":rotfl2: I asked him if there was any way the "bunny" could get into the house? "OHHHH NOOOO! Not possible...this place is as tight as a drum."

Fast forward to Saturday night...midnight...everyone's sleeping all cozy....suddenly, I'm awakened by a screeching noise:scared: DH flips on the light and our 11 yr old boxer/lab is wagging her tail, SO proud of herself....next to the dead rat!?!?:scared1: Errrr bunny.

I'm starting to think I'm a city girl:rotfl:

My dogs killed a rat a few weeks ago, but thankfully it was OUTSIDE! I would flip if one got in my house. I think with 3 cats and 2 dogs, hopefully the critters will have enough sense to stay outside.

I am ok if I see a mouse, but omg rats are just nasty!!

If there was 1 there are probably a few more, you need to put some traps out in the attic or some bait, I had this problem a few months back and I was lucky that I also saw where one of the little critters was getting into the attic, unfortuneately for them I found 7 dead in my yard over a course of a few days, mine were citrus rats (I have fruit trees) but they were rats none the less......and with 6 cats in the house you would think the little fur balls would stay as far away from here as possible! But then again I don't think I would like to wake up one night to find them showing off their catch so I guess I am glad they didn't find them!

Uh. Which river do you live on??

Eek!

Rink keeps pawing at our walls in the hall closet. It's starting to make me thank God we're moving out of here soon, I don't want to know what he's trying to get to!!

I would make sure that your dog is current on vaccines. Rats carry leptospirosis, which is a bad disease, but it is included in many annual vaccines.
As for rat bait, be sure your animals don't eat the rats (bunnies), etc. that are killed by the poison as they can ingest the toxins indirectly that way.

:faint: But it is sweet that your dog was proud! :cutie:

Yup~she thought she was the best dog ever LOL:rotfl2: (I'm thinking so too)

I was ok with the mouse, the snake kinda freaked me out...the rat...I'm still sitting here listening/looking:scared: The landlord says..."part of living on the river" ummmmm okay:sad2:

Traps went to the basement/attic Sunday morning:thumbsup2 I'm worried about using bait because of the dog(s) possibly getting ahold of them (the rats). Ours are 'river rats' and I guess we've been lucky up until now~stupid cold weather:headache:

Ew, ew!! :scared1: :scared1:

Guess you won't be watching "Lady and the Tramp" any time soon.....

We're on the Mon:goodvibes It's beautiful...minus the rats:rotfl:

Vaccines are up to date on both:thumbsup2 ~that was exactly my worry about the bait. I hate to use traps, but the bait is too dangerous with the dogs in the house.

I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be a bunny!:)

Bunnies don't climb up into ceilings and scratch around. Had to be a rat!

That's what I told DH...he thinks I over-react:lmao: I KNEW it was a rat~bunnies don't pull that kinda stuff :rotfl: Plus Daisy would be in BIG trouble for hurting a bunny:)

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I had to call the Health Inspector on an apartment I was renting when the landlady was being too victimy to get rid of the rat. He also said never use poison, even if you didn't have a dog. If the rat runs to the neighbors house or down the street, their dog could catch the now slow moving rat & injest the poison. It's a very slow, painful way for an animal to die. :sad1:

On a more positive note, glad your dog was on the night patrol! :cool1:

Oh these are the things I'm scared of most. Out of curiosity where do you live?

Somewhere near the Monongahela River, aka the "Mon".

agnes!

One morning my mom woke up with a MOLE on her pillow next to her head. Our dog had gotten it and I guess had it in the house and then brought it up to bed in the middle of the night.

I would have died.

Rats can become imune to poison they dont get the chance to become imune to a trap. Did you give your dog a treat for being a good girl?

I work for a pest control company and we tell people to never use bait inside the house. The rat can eat it and then die in the attic and fall into the wall void. The smell is overwhelming. We use traps in the attic. You need to look around the hosue and find out how they are getting inside. It only takes a tiny little hole for them to get entry.
