We got a letter from the postmaster today..."We want to keep delivering your mail in a timely fashion....blah blah blah....please either keep your dog confined in your home, chained away from the path of the mail carrier or fenced in away from your mail carrier."

Ummmmmmm my dog is in THE HOUSE!! Seems the mail lady thought the dog was going to "jump through the windows and eat her"

Now is it just me or if someone is so scared of dogs that they are afraid of the ones IN THEIR HOUSES- maybe they shouldn't have a job that requires them to walk house to house??

I refuse to kennel my dog inside the house because her barking scares the mail lady.

Did you call the post office and tell them excuse me but the dog is inside the house.

I agree with doxdogy, call the post office and let them know that your dog is in the house when the mail lady in delivering your mail.

My husband, a letter carrier, has had a dog jump through a glass door to get to him. Scarey. He has also had dogs get off their leashes and go after him. Call the PO and explain the problem to them. It might help.

Our Mailman cracks me up!! He carries treats, makes friends with all the dogs in our neighborhood, sits with them, pets them, so that now they all wait for him to bring the mail. Its hysterical, he walks down the street yelling "OK Holly I'm coming!!" to the dog next door.

Was it a personalized letter just for you, or a letter everyone on your mailcarrier's route received? Do you have a mailbox by the road or on your house?

I have a mailbox by the road and if I'm ever out there with my puppy, the mail person always has to talk to Boo, but rarely says anything to me.:teeth:

i agree with everyone else to call. Maybe your mailcarrier just hears the barking and can't figure out where the dog is. We had an interesting experience with the UPS guy. Our garage was open and he had walked inside. Well I didn't know he was there and opened the door to take my dogs out. He was standing right on the doorstop and I screamed so loud that the dogs thought he was bad and started chasing him down the driveway. He was screaming so high pitched that now it's funny to me but at the time I was so upset. First because what if the dogs had bit him (they've never done anything like that but they've never seen me scream because a man was in my garage). I think my little dog actually ripped the bottom of his pants but he was too embarrassed to say anything.

You could always just put a big poster board outside you're house saying, "You do realize that the dog is INSIDE of the house, don't you?"

I'm kidding :)

Yes my dh did call and say she was in the house, the postmaster said the woman was indeed afraid the dog would come through the windows. My dog barks at EVERYTHING that comes near our house. If we moved the mailbox down to the end of the walkway, she's gonna bark just as bad. Yes, she does sound mean. Frankly, my dh works weird hours sometimes and occasionally we are alone at night- it's not entirely bad that she sounds menacing.

Our dog is 6 years old and this is the first mail lady or man who has complained. I think she needs to find another line of work.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of dog do you have?

Our dogs -- 4 miniature poodles and one pek-a-poo -- will bark at anything and everything, and I've had more than one delivery person look toward the source of the barking; I'm sure that with all that barking it's hard to tell what kind of dogs they are. They're usually confined to the family room and kitchen. That's more for their safety and so they don't go bolting out the door if I have to answer it for a delivery person than anything. The most dangerous thing about them is their breath. :p

I heard this awful howling from my dog one day and knew that he was in big trouble - he sounded so afraid and hurt. I rushed outside to find that he had cornered the meter reader and then was terrified of him. I had to come "rescue" him from the poor meter reader who was scared to death of this little cocker spaniel puppy. I was laughing so hard that I made the meter reader really mad.

My little puppy had "caught" someone in our yard and then didn't know what to do with him.

One day when I was leaving the UPS man was bringing a package. My dog knew he was there and hated him. I opened the door back up to toss the package in and my dog attacked the package.

She's a Weimaraner. She is on our enclosed porch when this happens so the Mail Lady can indeed see her.
