OHANA
We tried Ohana for dinner on our recent trip in Sept. It was our first time dining there and I was a little nervous about finding food I would like since I am a bit of a picky eater. OMG, i loveeeeed this place. I can't wait to go back to Disney next December just go to there again,
We were seated fairly close to the fire pit near the window, so we had a perfect view of the lagoon, Cindy Castle and the Grand Floridian (or Red Roof Inn) as we heard it called several times.
The bread they start you out with is very good and the veggies they give you are good too. For me though, the highlight of the entire meal was the noodles they give you and the honey coriander chicken wings. My gosh, I think I must have eaten my weight in these. They were just beyond good. Since we got home, I found the recipe and have made them 3 or 4 times myself and they taste almost as good as what I got there.
Then the bread pudding was fabulous too. I've had bread pudding at other locations at Disney and have never been terribly impressed, but this was just sooo good, I hated that I had stuffed myself with chicken wings and barely had room for all that they gave you.
All in all, I'd rate this Disney restaurant a 10 and I'll definitely go back next year.
Whispering Canyon Cafe
This one was a first for us too. We enjoyed it, but to me, the food was only so so...the "other" stuff that happens is definitely what makes this dining experience.
We had Gino as our server. He was hilarious. He poked fun at me all night and flirted with my sister the whole time. When he brought us our napkins & straws, instead of placing them on the table, he just tossed them at us and of course we got 3 times more than we needed, although half of them landed on the floor or our heads.
When my husband asked for Ketchup, he looked at him like he was crazy and then of course, yelled for everyone to bring us ketchup.
We got complimentary champagne since we were celebrating our anniversary & my DH got a cupcake since he was celebrating a birthday.
Like I said, the food itself was pretty good, but dessert was very dissapointing. I got apple pie I think and when I think of apple pie, I think of it being warm with ice cream. This was stone cold and just hard and very untasty and unappealing.
Other than that, we enjoyed ourselves and loved being able to look out over the beautiful lobby of the Wilderness Lodge.
More reviews to come...
