My Dining Plan - Gulp!

I ditto the others - you won't be missing anything if you don't go to Shutters. Not much atmosphere, ok food, nothing special. We've been to Cape May Seafood buffet and it was ok. We won't go back though. I disagree with skipping Boma's - and I'm extremely picky and I loved it.

imo.......avoid sci-fi at all costs.........

Ditto! I went there for the first time in December...I had great expectations...WRONG! I am not sure if it was the food that disappointed me or the atmosphere! I thought the food was O.K....nothing to write home about...but I expected a much more "lively, fun" dining experience...instead I literally felt like I was in a drive in and I had to whisper the whole time....NO ONE MADE A PEEP!!!! :confused3 Now, my ds(7) thought it was "cool" but for I felt like if I asked for ketchup too loud, everyone in the "theatre" was going to turn around and "shhhh" me!! :rotfl2:

I think I would much prefer Prime Time next time around!

SEVENTEEN TABLE SERVICE MEALS in an ELEVEN day stay is a LOT of food and a LOT of time, not only eating but running to a restaurant for an ADR... i would definitely pare that list down... alot! LOL!

i suggest making a chart of the restaurants you've got, the characters that appear at them, what's important to you and where you will be... and start cutting from there...

i know the various resorts offer some nice restaurants, but imo they're just that "nice" not spectacular or something to write home about (although we had one of our best meals at boatwrights, but we were staying at POFQ)... and they take A LOT of time to get to and from... if it were me i'd make the following changes:

Chef Mickey's Buffet
Crystal Palace
pick one of the two above, the food is nearly identical...

Boma -- SKIP
Disney's Spirit of Aloha -- switch to HDDR
Sci Fi Dine-In Theatre -- skip (we found it to be below average food, horrible service, uncomfortable booths, and definitely not worth the $)
Marrakesh Restaurant -- keep
Whispering Canyon Cafe -- keep
Big River Grille and Brewing Works -- skip
Planet Hollywood -- skip (you can go to a chain restaurant anywhere, any time)
Cape May Cafe New England Clam Bake Dinner -- skip unless you are a seafood lover
Shutters -- skip

Breakfastosaurus -- keep, but make the latest ADR as we found you get the best character interaction *and* it makes a great "brunch"
Cinderella's Royal Table -- keep, but not sure it is worth two TS credits
Whispering Canyon Café -- skip
1900 Park Fare -- keep if you skip CRT, otherwise, skip Cape May Breakfast Buffet

just my $.02 on the subject...

Man, where were you when I was making my ressies?? LOL. I got a couple of em' though and I will be changing Sci-Fi. What should I change it to? I am scared of Prime Time because I am extremly shy...

I agree with what others have said Shutters is nothing special. Maybe you should consdier O'Hana or the Kona Cafe at the Poly. Kona is open for both lunch and dinner. I love that kiddie cone they have for dessert at Kona :)

You have some great choices and there is so much food on the meal plan, you will definitely be able to share some meals and extend your TS's. I prefer TS meals because it is a chance to sit and relax-can't really do that at most CS places. ANyway, I would swap out Big River for ESPN or Spoodles. ESPN has similar fare and is, IMHO, quite good. Spoodles is EXCELLENT and I would choose this over Big River any day. I'd probably stick with Cape May for one, but not, two meals. Breakfast has the characters, but dinner is nice and laid back. Unlike others who do not like SciFi, we usually go there and like it. It is a cool break with fun cars to dine in while quirky movies play on the screen. You can talk or watch, whatever works for you. The food there is just okay-but nice atmosphere.

LOL! we've never tried Prime Time 'cause i am sure dh would *hate* it! he does not like any attention... we have dined at both Mama Melrose and Hollywood & Vine and were quite pleased with both... if you are planning to see Fantasmic, you might try the F-Dinner Pkg which provides you w/decent seats to the show w/out having to stake out your territory hours in advance :)

ITA. That place was terrible and we actually gave it a second chance! I'd go with 50s Prime Time Cafe. Much better IMO.

I have to agree here. If you are really into the *sci fi, dine in cars thing*, make it a snack (fries, shakes...) NOT a meal. The food was average at best :confused3

PT 50s cafe though, is a family fave. Good food, and good times :cool1:

wow, sounds like I may have to rethink a few of my choices.

the comments and suggestions are great.

i do have to keep in mind that i have 3 elementary school children in my group.

all the more reason to limit your TS meals... i know my kids will not want to be sitting at a table waiting for food (or worse yet, standing around waiting for a table!), they'd rather be riding the rides and watching the shows, let alone being shuttled on and off buses to get to meals they could care less about... while it's tempting to go all out and cram in as many good restaurants as you can, there are only so many hours in a day and there are a LOT of great fun things to squish into those hours! LOL!

also, given that you've got elementary school-aged children, i would STRONGLY suggest that you switch Spirit of Aloha to Hoop Dee Doo Revue... my kids LOVE LOVE LOVE it significantly more than SoA!
