anyone know of any deals out there? We're looking for a free checking account - the account will be used minimally. We would like online access of course, and want to be able to get checks immediately upon opening the account - the fill in the blank checks are fine.

I think ING is free but I don't know.

I have a savings account there and it cost me nothing.

DO you have a credit union around you? They are usually free of charge.

If you've got a Bank One nearby we offer two types of free checking, with lots of freebies...online banking, starter checks, 24 hour 800#, debit cards, etc. Plus all the ATM's at WDW are Bank One, so you'd be prepared for your next trip!!!! Depending on your location, you may even get in on a promotional offer! Good luck bank hunting!

I think several banks now offer free minimal use (or not so minimal use) checking.

We have an account with Washington Mutual. We don't pay a dime.

I did buy my checks--but they may have given me some free..I don't remember.

I think Citizens has free checking, at least they do for students, but I'm almost positive it's for everyone.

Don't know where you are but Banknorth has free unlimited use checking. no fees no minimum balances.

We LOVE Commerce, but I don't know where you live. I think it is just in NY, NJ and CT.

Free checking, no fees at all, online banking that is free. And DSs favorite - free change counting. He dumps his piggy bank, it counts it and spits out a slip. Bring it to the counter and he's got bills!

Also, ING I think does only a savings, not checking, but they give you that 3+% even if you only have $1 in there! We have a savings there and it's great too!

Not sure where youlive, but I work for a bank and we have free checking with no minimums, no direct deposit required, free online banking w/billpay, free checkcard with Checkcard Rewards, etc. Most banks now offer some type of checking that's free. You'll get a started set of temporary checks. At AmSouth, where I work, your first order of cehcks is discounted and costs only $6. They take about a week to come in. I don't know if you have National City where you live, but they are having a special where they give you $50 to open a checking account and have several accounts where you have free checking too!
