My DELTA Flying Experience from ... Hell-o everyone!!

You poor thing! I can't even imagine!!! How frustrating! I do think Delta should have done something, even just been more empathetic. It would make me not want to use them again. I have always been happiest with SWA.

It sure is frustrating to have to sleep in the airport. My friends had joined us for a trip to WDW in December, 2004, the week before Christmas. I originally was on call the Christmas weekend, and so, we were originally scheduled to leave December 23. Fortunately, one of the other doctors traded with me, and were we ever lucky he did. There was a terrible snowstorm in the midwest Dec 23. My friends were flying into Columbus, Ohio, and had to sleep overnight in the Charlotte, NC airport, because no planes were landing in Columbus. When they finally got to Columbus, they had to dig their car out of two feet of ice and snow. Her teenaged son had worn shorts on the plane, and his only long pants were in checked bags. Imagine being outside in subzero weather shoveling snow in shorts. When she told me her horror story, I felt guilty, because I had planned the trip and treated them to staying at SSR with us.

We came home the day after Christmas, after visiting my brother in Ft. Myers for Christmas day. Our plane wasn't delayed, but, the car was still buried under two feet of snow and ice--almost got stuck in a drift on the way out of the parking lot. We had closer to three feet at home--people had actually been stranded for over 24hrs in their cars on the interstate not far from where we live. Our jewel of a good neighbor had used his snowblower to clear a path to our garage door wide enough for our car.

My office was actually closed from Dec 23-26, but, it wouldn't have worked at all for me to have been stranded in the airport and on call, had I not traded call for that weekend--could have been worse.

This was also the time when USAir stranded all the luggage at the airport--there were loads of luggage by baggage claim that apparently either was misdirected or on the wrong flight. What a horrible mess.

Grendalynn,

Southwest flies out of Providence (GREAT airport) and has direct flights to Orlando!!! Perhaps that would be a better option than connecting flights out of Boston!!

Blame the bozo who left the suspicious package.

The thing is it was a Security Test gone bad... It was a planned thing yet the notice to the Atlanta higher ups never got the notice. The communication break down is the main culpret in the ordeal which again cost me a night in the Airport Pregnant and with 2 small kids. I know "Sh*t Happens", but somewhere along the line someone should take fault in their errors. There was a comedy of them, that as we felt, all happened to us... Yes, it is a wide array of issues that came into effect, I was just reporting the issue on these boards as many others do regarding their experiences and reports. It all stemmed from my Flight with Delta, I don't believe that I blamed it all on Delta, that's just how it all began....... :guilty:

Well in that case--I can understand how you feel...however--delta doesn't own ATL---and it did seem to me that you were blaming delta for the whole ordeal---but the time I got to the hotel--I was confused about how it was their fault--and your response to someone's expereince on SWA as though Delta should or even could have done the exact same thing.

I am sorry I misunderstood if you were not blaming Delta entirely for the dilemma.

Your story and all the others like it are the reason that DH and I stopped flying when at ALL posible with our kids a few years ago. We had a big prob with ATA which I won't go into but suffice it to say that not only did they not get us to Orlando until 7 hours after they were supposed to with 45 min waits for "updates" that never came, but they also claimed they were going to have our flight leave Chicago for Mpls 2 hours after the local news channels were reporting that Midway would be closed due to an incoming blizzard. We hustled down and rented a car and DROVE home from Chicago. Our luggage didn't make it until 3 days later!

We now drive wherever we can, including Orlando and we LOVE it. Give us the control of when we stop and when we get something to eat and when we are allowed to get up and go potty, etc anyday over a somewhat quicker trip.
