She weighs only 25lbs so she isn't overweight she is 39inches + almost 40inches. She eats constantly..So far this morning she has had cheese toast, 6 mini pancakes, peanuts, and a bananna. This has been since 8am. This has been going on for months. I thought mabe she was going thru a growth spurt but it is lasting forever. She reminds of that puppy from 101 dalmations..she says "mommy i'm hungry, really really hungry" lol. But I'm starting to get worried it might be something else. It's like as soon as she is done eating she wants something else, she is never satisfied. I have always heard don't give them too much juice cuz that will fil them up. She usually drinks milk or water. This morning only water. She has had blood work before and nothing showed up. Just not sure what to do!

If she's not even 3yrs yet and she's already almost 40" she's probably just growing. That is very tall for a girl her age.
As long as your not filling her up on sugar I'd say you are doing ok. Especially if she's had blood work done in the past. Stick with veggies, proteins and grains. Maybe oatmeal or cereal in the morning may fill her up more?

Most mornings she will have grits or oatmel and cheese toast and yogurt and some type of fruit. No syrup on the pancakes. Yes, she is very tall for age. Over 100% percentile in height 50% in weight. It seems like all the food is going to height. I just feel like I am constantly feeding her. She snacks all day too.. she loves nuts and yogurt and cheese. she really isn't a picky eater at all.

At the age of 3 my son could eat me out of house and home (and I'm Pooh sized)! He was solid/stocky but not fat. My MIL & FIL just laughed it off and said they sure didn't want my grocery bills when he becomes a teen! :lmao:

I agree - she's probably gearing up to grow about 2 inches overnight. Considering that blood tests have come out ok and she's eating good-for-her foods, I really wouldn't worry too much.

But start the grocery bill savings account now - I just spent over $100 on groceries this weekend. My son's 13!

Just wait till she's a Teenager and has a growth spurt.

haha I have a ds13 so I know...I guess I just didn't thinks girls ate as much my older dd barely eats to survive lol. We are all thin.. mt dh is 6'3 and 180lbs. So i guess it is his fault. My disney budget for food maybe under estimated this year.:rotfl2: I have stocked up on tons of snack to bring but i'm not sure it will be enough between the 2 year old and the 13 year old!

I have a daughter the same age who eats like that. I don't understand how such a cute little thing can put away food like a truck driver! I enjoy it in a way though, since my oldest is the world's most picky eater.

My son has spans like that, too. She may be one of those people who are just blessed with a quick metabolism.

Two things that have helped are some extra protein at breakfast (examples: 2 scrambled eggs, leftovers from dinner last night, tofu cubes, hard boiled eggs) and a bowl of veggies put down to snack on while I get his plate together. We were getting into a veggie free stretch, so I popped down a bowl of peas and carrots in front of a hungry kiddo one day while I made cheese toasty and turned around to find it all gone and no complaints of hunger the rest of the day.

She also may just be an eater who likes volume. My DH is like that. He needs lots of raw veggies throughout the day to keep him feeling full and non-snacky.

My DD6 does this form tiem to time as well. As I recall she had a spell about that age where she was just never full. She grew 4 inches between 4 and 5 . I think as long as what she is eating in nutritionally sound it should be fine, as long as there is nothing else that is raising a red flag.

:rotfl:My kids have always had a big appetite. My dd, almost 9, will not even be done chewing her last bite of dinner before asking what's for dessert. My ds, 5, eats all day long. With him, I have noticed, though, that he asks for more food because of boredom, not necessarily out of hunger. When I talked to my pediatrician about this he said, as long as it is God grown food (fruits, veggies, grains) let him eat all he wants.

My son is tall for his age too. He is 5 and is 4 ft tall. I am only 5 ft tall. I think I'm in trouble when he gets a little older!!

Watch out for diabetes. Eating frequently and not gaining wait, drinking a lot of fluids, and urinating often are all signs of Type I Juvenile Diabetes. Despite her seemingly fortunate body type, be careful about what she eats. Cut out the sugary breakfasts and stick to more filling proteins.

This is what I was concerned about before, it runs in our family, both sides, her dad is a diabetic. So far with the test she is fine! But they do routinely check. We have another appointment in April.

My DS is 4 and is almost 4 ft. tall already. He can eat me out of house and home now. He eats almost as much as my teenagers do!:scared1:
The other day I was making dinner and had a plate with cut veggies to go in fried rice and everytime I turned around there was less on the plate. I guess I should be thankful that he likes veggies.

Less carbs and more fiber. Carbs burn quick and then you're empty. The peanuts and cheese were probably not enough protien to hold her over either.

Fix her some oatmeal, or whole grain bread cheese/peanut butter toast. Even cheerios have more fiber than pancakes. Whole fruit and yogurt will give some fiber and protien as well.

My baby is 13 months and he eats like crazy. He is small 20-21 lbs but he thinks he should eat if anyone else in the room is eating and will eat anything you have :woohoo:. For me it is nice since I have one that is not interested in eating and very thin and another that is average size but very particuliar ( I can not say picky because she tends to like fruit and veggies but is super picky about desserts).
He is also tall.

At 25 lbs, I don't think she's in the 50th percentile for weight. My DS was 26 lbs at 36 mos and he was in the 4th percentile.

Your DD is very tall, so it just might be that she needs to eat a lot to keep up with all that growing she's doing. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you and your ped are keeping an eye on her.

I wish I had your DD's metabolism. I just look at food and I pack on the pounds. And I'm short.:sad2:

My 10 month old DD is the same way - she seems to put away a lot of food for such a little person! And if you eat anything in front of her, she crawls right over & wants some too. DD is still nursing also - she nurses 3 or 4 times a day in addition to her 3 meals. It will be interesting to see what happens when she weans. She is also tall & skinny (for a baby, at her 9-month check up she was almost 30 inches tall but only 18 pounds). So maybe it is the small-but-tall little ones who need lots of food.

My girls would eat like this for a few weeks, then naturally turn it down. I think it just depends on the growth pattern. I wouldn't worry. I don't push them to eat either. I remember my generation was a "clean your plate" era, and the weight problem many of us have may stem from that. My girls don't have to eat the meal, but they won't have a night time snack if they choose not to eat. This rule seems to work for us.

My DS and DD (both 3) go through stages with constant eating, then normal eating. They eat healthy snacks and we don't give them sugary drinks or foods often. Usually a growth spurt comes after the constant eating. At this age, I don't think there is anything to be worried about if they are healthy otherwise.

My dd is 4 and also eats constantly. When she was 2 my friend watched her while I worked and used to laugh because she would eat more than her teenaged sons. She is absolutely not a picky eater. I was concerned when I switched her to a full-time daycare center at age 3 because they eat only breakfast, lunch and snack rather than being able to eat at any time. She adjusted ok but the center director likes to laugh with me about how much she can eat - at least two servings at each meal. She is the best (and biggest) eater at the center.

When we get home in the evenings she immediately gets a snack (usually fruit or veggies) while I cook dinner. She eats dinner and about half an hour later is hungry again. This goes on all night and all day on the weekends. She can really pack away the food. If she is busy playing outside she will ask for a snack she can take out with her.

However, she is still growing. My older two had slowed down by this age but this one just keeps going. She has always been about 95 percentile on height and about 60 percentile on weight. She just turned 4 and needs a size 6 to have enough length in pants and tops.

She'll eat anything but I try to make healthy choices available to keep her eating well. We do not do juice or soda in our house so she get milk or water.

I am always amazed how much she eats but my niece is just the opposite. she is several years older but we can no longer get hand-me-downs because dd is bigger than her cousin. My niece is a very picky eater and does not eat healthy at all. Sure she is petite but I don't think she's healthy.

Kids - they're all different.
