My daughter has sock issues - help!

This thread rings a bell in our family. I'm glad most of your wacky-sock kids grew out of it. My oldest DD is 16 and still has "sock issues".

She must have soft thin socks with flat seams. When I find some she likes, I buy a whole bunch of them. I think she will be an adult with sock issues!:rotfl: At least then she will have to go buy them herself, hopefully...

My DD7 has sock issues, too. For the past two years she will only wear the "bow" socks from Gymboree. They have smooth seams and are nicely fitted. They have a scalloped edge and stay in place. Good luck! I know this can be a huge problem. If Gymboree discontinues those socks, I am in a lot of trouble!

my boys have issues with socks since they were babies ,, I used to buy old navy ones but as they gotten bigger (size 7 and 9 mens shoes!!!) it gets worse but I have to second the inside out tip, my boys ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear the socks that way , and it does not matter what brand as long as they are inside out they do not complain:confused3

I do not have any suggestions where to buy socks, but I can say that my 6 yr daughter is the same way. She literally has 30 pair of socks and will wear a pair 10 times then all of a sudden they bother her, I am dreading winter because she will have to wear socks everyday. She tries every pair on and still can't find one's that don't "bother her". Drives me crazy!!

Ok, Im so glad I found this thread, my dd5 has this issue and I've always thought that she was being difficult on purpose. She has seam issues, fit issues, lettering at the bottom issues, too thick, too thin, etc. I will check out Gap and Gymboree as well.

Stride Rite comfort seam did the trick for us. Now that she is almost 10 I wonder if she could wear regular socks but I haven't tried it yet!

My son doesn't like socks, so he only wears them when he HAS to wear them. You can find him on any given day in Berks, Crocs, or things that look like tennis shoes, but are actually high tech aqua shoes.

I gave this link out because these are also GREAT shoes for the world. You can sweat, ride water rides, and hike all day in comfort.

He wears garage sale pants, shirts, and hats. For this little gem we are thankfully because we spend a small fortune on his sockless shoe fetish.

My DD refused to wear socks (in Chicago in winter!) and would only wear stride rite seamless socks when absolutely necessary. Now that she is in catholic school, she must wear socks everyday as part of the uniform. I found some seamless socks on Amazon, and she loves them. It still takes her awhile to arrange them just right, but there's no complaining.

I am very fussy about my socks (no seam, thin, stretchy feel) and I am 28 :rotfl:

I do very well with the Gold Toe sport socks. We have an outlet here so they aren't too bad price wise. I have also been buying them at Target and some local department stores.

I have a daughter who is 6. She's had the same Old Navy socks for the past 2-3 years and has virtually worn them to death. They are the kind that have a little spandex in them so they don't slouch, and the seams around toes are nice and smooth.

So a few months ago, I went to Old Navy to buy some new socks and they don't sell that kind anymore. They're cut totally different. I bought a pair, and DD proceeded to have a MAJOR meltdown and saying they don't feel right.

She's always been particular about how things fit her, sometimes to the point where it feels like somethings not quite right with her! :confused3

I've been on the hunt for some new socks. I've gone everywhere. ShopKo, Bergner's, Children's Place, you name it.

Last week, I got SO excited because I found some white socks at Bergner's and they seemed PERFECT. The seams around the toes were smooth, which is what she needs. So I got them for her, she tried them on and loved them. She loved them until they got washed and now they don't feel the same.

Back to square one.

It's gotten to the point where she even wears the Old Navy socks MISMATCHED, which drives me up the wall.

This morning, it took her almost 10 minutes to get on socks and she nearly missed her bus. I keep teling her that she has to be strong, because this is all in her mind and she's letting this get the best of her.

Should I just take the Old Navy socks AWAY all together?

My other question is where else I should look for socks. Aren't Gap and Old Navy one and the same? Just wondering how Gap Kids socks would be.

I am at a TOTAL LOSS! Help!

Too funny!!!! My DD has the same issue AND will only wear Old Navy!!!! They did get rid of them for a bit last year. BUT ou store has them again. They only come in packs of 10 white socks......

Good luck! I feel your pain!

We have sock issues too!

When dkids were little, we used lots of OldNavy socks.

DD6 has done well for years with Gymboree socks. They can be expensive---but i usually wait til they're on sale. Gymboree sells socks to match their "lines" of clothing. So at the end of each season/line, they usually go on sale.

We like the ones with the bow in the back of ankle. They seem softest, good fit and last well. They seem to run small though so I'm always buying bigger than age-range says. At six (with average feet) she's wearing the 8yrs and up size.

We should start a group.

I thought it was just my DD who was crazy about socks. They have to match up just right, and God forbid if that stupid seam moves on iota. She has to pick out her socks in person, and feel them to make sure they are ok. Only wears the low ones, and Will Not Wear tights, no matter what. They make her not able to breath right. :confused3

The last time I tried to get her to wear a turtleneck, she ran screaming from her room, "it's touching me it's touching me!"

I just had to laugh about the turtleneck touching her! :rotfl2: Too Funny! (at least to read about but I know it must be a huge headache in person!)

My niece was the same way. She eventually outgrew it. So, there is hope for all of you members of Sock Anon!

Ahhh - sensory issues - we all seem to have something sensory going on! I am an OT who treats kids with sensory processing/integration disorders. The one sock that parents seem to rave about is the Smartknit kids seamless socks, they are smooth and fit well - but they are costly - but I guess if thats the only thing that works!!! you can google them and find them on the internet.

She is very particular about things. Must follow all rules. I am sure she is the only little girl to measure her skort to make sure it is the correct length per her school handbook. We had to go back to school tonight because she forgot something and wouldn't wear flip flops there, because they aren't allowed.

I am just glad that, A) she is not the only one with a sock obsession ( ok, and turtlenecks!) and B) there is hope that she will grow out of it. Or get a job and buy her own darn socks.

OMG!!! Sock-weirdos Unite!!!!! :rotfl2:

My DS was the same way. He was cramming his 6 yr old feet into Old Navy 4-5 Toddler sock until last year, when I put my foot down and told him I was throwing all those socks out and he better start liking some other kind of sock. He now wears socks from JCPenny (I think thier brand) Ankle sock and hasn't complained about them once.

we also use goldtoe brand socks. some hanes brands he will wear too.

im a bit picky with socks too. its not totally crazy to not like to feel nubs on the sides of your feet or have your feet feel too itchy or tight.

Another proud mom of a sock weirdo here too. He's 11, and the good news is, as he's gotten older, it's gotten much better.

Seems to me I posted a VERY similar thread back when he was 5 or 6, and lo and behold someone then told me he probably had sensory dysfunction too. Well, one of my dearest friends in the world happens to be a special educator, specializing in autism, and she concurs that there was absolutely no clinical dysfunction, he was just picky about his darn socks.

He still does like the super cushy, Old Navy, or Gap low cut socks. He has also graduated to any smooth, low cut, no show socks (Under Armour, Adidas, I think we even have some Gold Toe as well).

His main angst at this point is that he's also a soccer player, and he must wear his issued uniform socks for games, and he HATES them. But, he sucks it up, and deals with it for the 2 games a week.

So all you parents of sock weirdos, take heart, it will get better!!!

I am just loving all of this! We definitely should start a group. :)

Well, based on ideas that you all gave me, this morning I had DD put on her socks inside out. And you know what, it WORKED!!!! She said they felt totally fine and we had no issues whatsoever. We can't do this with every sock she has, but these are just white ones and you can't really tell.

Thanks everyone!
