My dad has cancer

It's been a very difficult week. My dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer on Monday. We don't know the stage yet, and the waiting is making me jump out of my skin. It's a small tumor, but it's unfortunately located near the renal vein, which can make it spread.

Well, I don't want to go into too much detail. I'm usually pretty private about family stuff, but we could use all the prayers we can get. My dad is having further tests this weekend to see if it has spread to his lungs or heart. Thank God, his liver and pancreas are clean.

So if you could spare some prayers, please say one for my dad - specifically that his cancer has not spread. Thanks. He means the world to me.

I'm so sorry!! My FIL had renal cancer 6 years ago. They removed the kidney and he's doing great now. I hope your family gets the same news.

Prayers are on their way! I too understand, as my Grandmother just found out that she has pancreas cancer a month ago. It is spreading rapidly and unfortunately, there is nothing they can do.

My husband had his kidney removed when he was only 5 years old due to cancer

Not only is he living a normal life, the doctors didn't think he could ever have children due to the radiation and we have two beautiful daughters!!

I am so sorry!! I lost my grandfather to renal cancer two years ago - his was really aggressive, though, so I really hope and pray for a good prognosis for your dad. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you hear some good news soon and he will start treatment and recovery.

Thanks so much for the replies. They mean a lot to me. It was difficult even to type the words out because I'm still in somewhat of a stage of shock. I appreciate the stories of survival and hope - they give me hope. Also, my prayers to all here who are going through similar difficulties. It's really scary, isn't it?

My dad, fortunately, is a rock. He's just determined to do what he has to do to get better and otherwise, to go on with his life in the meantime. I have to get better at "compartmentalizing" my emotions. Right now, I'm pretty much obsessing on it - not good, I know.

What you are feeling is very natural honey. I remember how I felt when I heard my dear Dad, then my dear Mom had cancer and I share your pain. It is very shocking and heartbreaking news, but could have a positive outcome. Try to think positive and keep the faith! Your Dad's attitude sounds great and will carry him a long way.
