My cousin went on the Disney Cruise last Sunday and then off to Boardwalk on Thursday until Sunday. She cannot get out of Orlando to Pittsburgh until tomorrow (Tuesday). She had to move to Coronado Springs yesterday since BWV were at capacity. So she gets to spend an extra few days in WDW:Pinkbounc

So, all these people that cannot get out of Orlando International, are they being compensated for housing by the airport, airlines, themselves?

Hmmmm....

We live just north of Orlando and my husband flew out of OIA this morning to Pittsburgh.

Well, I don't think the situation is anyone's fault. Not the airport's or airline's anyway. They are working double time to make the airport safe again. I'm pretty sure people are choosing where to stay at their own expense. When we left Sunday, we did see people that looked like they had been camped out at the airport for a while.

I don't think the airline has to compensate you for weather related cancellations.

If you already had a flight reservation for today, you would be OK. But people whose flights were cancelled on Friday or Saturday have to wait for open seats on existing flights.

We flew out of Orlando on Thursday night. When we checked in at 4 ish they told us there was a chance our flight wouldn't take off and while they would schedule us on another flight they were not responsible for any other compensation due to an act of nature.

This is correct. Several years ago I was stranded with my family at BWV in the month of February when a blizzard hit the Northeast. I was able to obtain the room for additional nights on points, and then eventually moved to the Swan.

I rebooked on another airline that was returning sooner, at my own expense. Very costly blizzard that year, lol, but oh so nice to be in balmy Florida instead of the frozen tundra of New Hampshire, lol.

Oh boy! And I was jealous of all the people who were stuck in a local movie theater for two days during the Blizzard of 78!

Now THAT'S a Hurricane story....

" I rememebr Hurrican Charley in '04. It was terrible. We were forced to stay at WDW for a few extra days, CAN YOU IMAGINE?. SO traumatic. I needed councelling when we got home."
