My countdown calendar

I'd rather be diving

I just finished making a countdown calendar for the grandkids for our upcoming trip. I used a standard size piece of poster board and Mickey head paint samples from Home Depot. On each of the Mickey heads I put the numbers (used my cricut machine to cut them out). Under each of the heads I put either a sticker, a quote, or a trivia question. The last square has a jingle bell sewn onto a black felt Mickey head, which is glued onto a red felt square. The saying in the corner is "How many days 'til our Disney trip? It's might hard to count. So, this little calendar will tell you the exact amount. Remove a Mickey head every night when the sandman casts his spell, and departure day will be here by the time you reach the bell." My husband mounted the poster board onto stiff "poster board" material that he got at Hobby Lobby.

I think it turned out pretty well and wanted to share it with you all - as I got parts of the idea here. :yay:

That is adorable :thumbsup2 I bet the grandkids will love it :yay: Thanks for sharing :thanks:

Really cute. I would have loved something like this when my kids were little.

Thanks for the pictures. We are taking our grandchildren (6 of them) in May also and I would like to copy you. I love the idea. I used to teach kindergarten and used the same poem for a Christmas countdown with chains attached to a construction paper bell. Did you have any problem getting the Mickey heads from Home Depot? Did you just go in and ask for them?

All you do is go in and go over to the paint samples. There are a bunch of them and you don't have to ask for them. I got an alien green one yesterday to pin on my bag when we go.

Nice job OP!

I did something very similar with our countdown. I got the disney paint chips and used paint markers to write the numbers on them. Then I printed out trivia questions and fun facts about Disney and glued them on the back. I punched a hole in the corner and put them on a large ring. It made a great countdown calendar, plus its fun to take into the parks to pass time waiting in line for rides.

Very cute. We do something similar but mine does not have the cute poem at the top! Very catchy. I bet they will love it.

I got the poem from a candy strip that I had when I was a kid. I read it everyday during the month of December when I was waiting so I just made some adjustments for this trip.

Glad you liked it.
