my Christmas present came early

I just got a call from the transplant center at the university hospital telling me I am now a Status One.

That means I am completely eligible for a kidney transplant.

7 family members are currently being tested as possible donors. So my chances of receiving a new kidney in 2004 are very bright indeed.

WHAT great news for you!!!!!

A co-worker is currently out on a leave of absence from our company, because he is donating a kidney to his cousin. He will be back after the holidays. What I found amazingly interesting, about his case, is that they (he and his cousin) are not even biologically related, as she is adopted. Yet he is a close enough match for her. I don't know enough about any of this to say anything about other than I thought that was SO cool.

Actually, my husband is still in the running for the "winning" donor. I also always believed that one had to be a blood relative, the closer the better.

But apparently you don't even have to have the same blood type, just a compatible one.

Of course, they will go with the closest match, and I suspect that will be one of my brothers or sisters. Finally, the pay off for being the oldest of 6 kids ! LOL

And you know, one of the best things to ome out of all this: all my family members have improved their health, by quitting smoking and losing weight etc., to be able to go on the donor list.
