Hi,
My centro went to the big electronics cloud in the sky:littleangel:...thing won't turn on.

But, it is time for a new one. I was browsing on the Sprint site and saw a bunch of blackberry phones, HTC phones, everything but the iphone. I want to stick with Sprint so I am asking all of the great people on here. Which one should I get? :confused3
I use it for work so I would like the PDA functions, camera is ok too, speakerphone is important as well. Texting is needed too. I am kinda rough on phones so I should keep that in the back of my mind....

I do get a credit of $150 so I could go for one of the jazzed up ones.

So, which do you recommend?

Thanks for your help! :)

HTC hero, I switched to it from an iPhone and couldn't be happier. Much better phone IMO.

I use Sprint and I love my Samsung Instinct. I have the first generation so I'm sure the newer ones are even better. I have messed around with my in-laws IPhones and while all the apps are cool, I still prefer my Instinct because I can use the internet anywhere, not just in a wi-fi hotspot.

Hubby had the Instinct and "had" to switch to the Blackberry. I want to say it's the Tour. I can check when he gets home. He was unable to receive email (work email) on his Instinct. They had the tech guys try and set it up without success. He was "encouraged" to get the blackberry so he could receive his work emails. This has worked out wonderfully for him. It has lived up to the term "crackberry" as he is always dickering with it, checking this or doing that.

I have the HTC touch, biggest POS ever. He used our upgrade on the blackberry, so I will have to live with this for another year and a half. Our oldest son inherited the old Instinct.

I'm a huge fan of BlackBerrys but with one caveat, if you're not going to use their e-mail push technology, either through BES or BIS, you'll find that the biggest selling point is lost.

There are some quirks with BlackBerrys mostly because of their infrastructure, remember, BlackBerrys are one of the most secure phones in the world, used by governments and businesses, so they have some the tightest encryption technology. For instance, you can download a different web browser (the preinstalled browser is a little lacking IMO), like Opera, but some functions within the BlackBerry will still use the base browser and there is no way to change it.

I think I probably would use the email push thing, so perhaps that's the way to go...?? I have to get one soon because it is my primary contact method. My house phone is vonage and it's not that great...wahhh wahhh (as my son says..lol).

Anyone else have any recommendations or ideas? I am hoping to purchase online tonight.

Thanks!!

Just don't get a Storm (this includes the Storm 2) if you go the BB route. We have digital phone, but ours is through our cable company, were in a contract through May I think, at that time we're going to cancel it because what happens is people call home, if they cannot get us, then they call our mobiles (or vice versa) and usually we don't answer either in these cases. We rarely use our home phone.

I have 3 email accounts set up on my Instinct including my work email which uses Microsoft Outlook.

Just a note though, it's most likely not encrypted, and you are probably fetching e-mail versus getting it pushed, which is the big difference between BBs and most other phones.

So does my husband. He actually went with the Instinct because it had the e-mail capability he needed for his secure job without going the blackberry route.

He "upgraded" from the HTC Touch to the Instinct and couldn't be happier. He would agree that the Touch was not worth much.

My kids (except for dd) have Instincts and love them.

DO NOT GET THE PRE, especially if you are hard on phones. I got mine in July when they first came out and it has been replaced 4 times now. That is a new phone every month and a half. It is extremely moisture sensitive, even the humidity while in a pocket while you work out will cause it to just die. I have had the keyboard just quit and the other times it just up and died. Sprint has never invoked my insurance, just replaces it for me - that should tell you something.

I would go for one of the two new android phones, either the HTC Hero or the Samsung Moment. We upgraded our daughter to the Moment from the Rumor over Christmas and I am about to steal her phone. It is absolutely wonderful. And it is starting to rival the Iphone with the available apps.

Thanks guys! I stil haven't pulled the trigger yet but believe I will be putting in an order tonight... I am going there to check out the prices now.

I just got the new 8350i BlackBerry from Sprint. I had the 8330 before, but I wanted an upgrade. I've only had it a few days, but so far so good!

I'm not sure what "pushed" means.

not sure if this is what it means but hubby gets his email sent almost instantaneously to his BB. It actually arrives quicker than in his in box at work. When I check my email on my touch, i have to get it. It downloads once a day or I have to do the send/receive. I assume that is what he means or something along those lines.

OP When we did get our phones, Sprint allowed us 30 days to exchange for something different if we were dissatisfied. I don't know if you exchanged within the 30 days, still unhappy, if your 30 days were all in one or if they started over with the new phone.

I also wanted to add to my hubby's story about his BB. He got this in November. There is no way we would have spent the $250 to upgrade to this phone (this was after the $150 credit, did have a MiR of $100 that we didn't get until Jan.) right before Christmas, if he did not need to do it. They have an outside company that does all computer/tech related things, they tried to sync his Instinct. He would not allow me or my son to try and sync it. Because we were not allowed, we did not research it, seemed pointless. That being said, he did like the phone. He loved the ability to stream the NFL games, still does with the BB. Just want to keep in mind that the BB has the keyboard and the Instinct is touch screen.

As for the Palm Pre mentioned, I've seen both sides of that. I have a friend who has had hers since they first came out, she loves it. She is a hairdresser, so far no problems with moisture. Another friend just upgraded from the Pre to a BB, he had problems with it being a sturdy phone, nothing else. He is a teacher & baseball coach.

my hubby is hard on phones and goes throught them quite quickly. He has the blackberry tour right now and loves it.

I have a first gen Instinct. I love this phone.
