Help y'all.

Our poor Piper started sneezing....a lot....a few days ago.

He's not an outdoor cat - never goes outdoors actually. No change in food, routine, household products....nothing.

What the heck, can a cat catch a cold? :confused3

I was watching this documentary recently, where a dog was allergic to humans. :confused3

Anyway, cats can have allergies and catch colds.

I was about to say... perhaps your cat is allergic to you.

I'm sorry- you will need to clean your home thoroughly, get allergen proof bedding, hepa filters, and sadly you and your family will have to move out of the home and leave it to the cat. After all it has an allergy...

One of my cats was allergic to her food. She wasn't sneezing but it was actually bothering her ears. Changed foods - all better!

And yes, cats can also catch cold. If it persists, I'd call the vet. Can't hurt to ask! :goodvibes

Hope Piper feels better!

Has your cat gotten their distemper shot/nasal drops recently? That will cause sneezing....

Also, be on the look out for a fever (cats can get them-their nose will feel very warm)... a fever and sneezing could signal a URI (upper respiratory infection)...

GL and I hope it passes quickly!!!!:grouphug:

Other causes ....

Cats may also sneeze in response to strong chemicals or cigarette smoke. Different cats show different sensitivities to chemicals. Many flat-faced cats are more sensitive to chemicals and may sneeze in response to exposure. Suspect your perfume, cleaners, or insecticide sprays if you cat suddenly starts sneezing.

Allergies may cause your cat to sneeze. Cats are susceptible to the same allergies as humans, such as trees, grasses, pollens, and other airborne allergens. Allergy testing may be required if your cat is bothered by excessive sneezing.

Other uncommon causes of sneezing in cats may be nose polyps, cancer, and ear infections. If you suspect any of these, or if you just cannot determine the cause of your cat’s sneezing, take him to the vet for diagnosis.

My cat started sneezing about a year ago. It lasted about a week. I guess she had a cold, I was about to take her to the vet when it went away.

Cat's can get upper respitory infections, so if she doesn't stop you may need to take her to the vet.

Try some L-Lysine mixed in her food. Mine was a constant sneezer (to the point of blood 'cause he'd get so irritated). pinch of Lysine once a day in his food has made all the difference. It won't harm her either - my vet actually recommends it for all cats. I just get the store brand and mush it up. no taste or smell so the cats don't even notice it.

Thanks all! I felt his nose and it didn't feel warm...although, I'm not prone to touching cat's noses - so I couldn't really tell.

I'm guessing it's just a cold since nothing new's been introduced that might spark an allergy. Although my son agrees with PP and said maybe he's allergic to us  .

I'll keep an eye on him, but I don't know how the heck he could have caught a cold. :confused3

One of our cats, which are also indoor cats started sneezing, badly. Blowing mucus all over the house, it was gross. Took her to vets, gave her a pcn shot and she was well immediately.

What's a pcn shot?

sorry, penicillin.

:thumbsup2 Thanks. I'll give him til Monday to clear up on his own (old habit from having so many barn cats growing up ;) ), if he's not any better I'll take him for a shot.

My vet recommended the same thing for my cat. I just opened the capsule and sprinkled it on his food and mixed in real well. He had a small cold.

Take him to the vet. If you can tell there is something wrong with a cat, it needs to be treated.

my cats sneeze due to upper respiratory infections.....it is important even if it seems to stop to bring your cat in to the vet. If not kept an eye on it can be deadly. Have you brought any other cats into the house lately?

Anyway...I kinda blew it off thinking allergies also. Till my second one started than my 3rd cat started.....I was filled in about how bad this can be and it should not be ignored.

The will give you antibiotics to get rid of it. But once they have it it will always pop up again...it is hard to fight off.

Call your vet and tell them what is happening and ask them about URI.....

Not typing this to scare you just to inform you :thumbsup2

Hope your kitty is fine:hug:
