My car was broken into..question??

I called the cops and reported what was stolen.

Do I call my insurance? Do they replace the things that were stolen.

Honestly, it wasn't a TON..maybe 150 dollars worth of stuff (including my mp3 player)

Will it cost more each month if I file a claim?

If what was stolen is less than your deductible, then I wouldn't report it. It wouldn't be worth it.

a lot of the stuff in the car they won't cover. Our car was stolen years ago, I lost about 100 cassette tapes, three library books, car seat and a jacket. They covered the car, jacket and car seat, minus the deductible.

General rule is to never get insurance involved if you can afford to cover any loss out of your own pocket - that goes for any type of claim. Higher premiums or being flat out cancelled or non-renewed are not always worth the risk of involving the insurance company unless you have no other viable choice.

That's what I thought. Everyone keeps saying "CALL THE COPS, TELL YOUR INSURANCE!"

I called just so they'd realize there's someone around our area (rare) and got the 'well you shouldn't have left it in there' talk. Yes. I'm aware. *sigh*

This weekend my DH & I went grocery shopping and he thought he locked the car doors. Later that evening I went out to get something out of the car and noticed somethings taken out of the glove box. I locked the car and went to see if DH had been in the glove box. He hadn't. So I went and checked to make sure nothing was missing in the car.

I took everything out of the glove box and put it all back, took everything out of the center console and as I was putting it back, I found a cell phone. It did not belong to either my DH or I. And it wasn't my DD's. Checked the rest of the car and nothing was missing.

So whoever got into my car, didn't take anything, but left their cell phone.

It is a pay as you go Trac phone. I checked it a couple days later to see if there were any messages but there wasn't anything and the battery was dying. So now it is turned off and we still have it.
