My brother totalled his car...*small update*

He goes to school in S. Carolina and was driving home from a bar last night after the SB with two of his friends and went off the road into a swamp. My brother and the kid in the passanger seat are ok, both wearing seat belts and the air bags but the kid in the back much not of been. He is still in the hospital with two broken ribs and a dislocated hip, they are holding him for observations.

I am a wreck over this. My brother is ok and Steve( in the hospital) will be ok....

This is my brothers second car accident in less than six months and the second offense with alcohol... oh yeah he was above .15 BAC.... the other time he had beer in his hand and drug stuff, he was a passanger and says it was the drivers and he was trying to save him since the driver would be in more trouble for having it. I think he may have gotten out of that one completely.
my parents pay for his car and he is on their insurance and they have put up with a ton of crap from him. This kid thinks he is GOD and his head is soooo big.... I am hurting for my mom.... Generally his is good guy but he just has this rightous attitude and feels the world owes him... we can't figure out where it came from either... we were brought up exactly the same, not far apart in age....

I just needed to get this all out... I don't know what will happen to my brother now... he has a $1000 ticket for the DUI and I don't know about his license....

Thanks for listening... if anyone has any idea what will happen next I'd love to know...

I'd take the car before he kills himself or someone else,,if your parents are paying for school..I'd transfer him close to home 'till he matures a little..

He is taking loans out for school himself. He is 22 years old, in his "senior" year but failed a few so he will be taking another year...

He defintely needs to mature a bit but how can you force someone to do that?????

It's so hard because he is a good person and he gives with everything he has. He has moods and he treats the rest of us like junk more often than not because of the moods and my mom is sick of it, can't spend another summer with him home.

My parents are cutting him off now... they need to. I hurt for my mother because even though she knows better she is falling into the "what did I do" mentality... She gives so much without asking for anything in return.... it's so hard...

I am sorry to hear you and your parents are going through a hard time with your Brother. Maybe he will get a reality check when your parents cut him off.

I feel bad for your family. I had a sister the same way. She became and alcoholic and died at the age of 40. Her first offence was loss of license 6 months and her second, which involved an accident (luckily no one was hurt), was I think 2yrs loss of license and 90 days jail. From what you have said it sounds like there is an addiction problem. Until that is taken care of don't count on him changing. The mood swings are all part of it. I wish you and your family luck. It is a very hard thing to have to live with and go through.

I am so sorry that it has come to this. I hope that your brother grows up fast. Thank goodnedd that no one was hurt beyond repair. I hope that this IS a wake up call.

I just talked with my parents again and I guess they have gotten more information out of my brother. He has been complaining of a clunking sound in the rear of his vehicle when he was going over bumps. He says that he was going between the speed limit or possibly a few mph's over. He goes this road every day.. US 60 maybe. He said as he applied the brakes to slow for the curve the car started to fishtail and he tried to recover and then it went to the otherside and then lost control....

Gains respect in my parents eyes that he wasn't driving like a maniac causing him to go off the road. However, he was still over the legal limit..... That was the problem .....

I am worried about him though.... my dad is going to get the car towed to shop and have an "expert" determine if there was a mechanincal failure and if that would cause what happened.... STILL THOUGHT.. GEEZE

oh and Steve is going to be released tomorrow and he is in good spirits my brother is at the hospital there with him now.

Hopefully the state will take away his license for a few years and let him wake up before he kills others, in addition to himself. He is learning slowly, hopefully not too slowly. Glad no one was killed. for you and your folks.

Oh boy, this is a tough situation for you all. Sorry to hear about it. .15 BAC is nothing to sneeze at. I agree with the others that if i were your parents his car would be sooo gone. But i get the impression from your last post that your father at least is in some denial. However i do think SC will take care of his driver's license for awhile if they do nothing else. He'll probably wind up paying in some way for this accident if he didn't pay for the last. I also noticed you mentioned that he has "moods". It sounds possible that he could be using the booze to self medicate clinical depression. That's very common. Not smart, but common. If you can dry him out try and talk him into an evaluation of some sort. But i wish you all luck. Sounds like you will need it, and try not to take too much of your brother's problems on yourself. I know its not easy, but ultimately they are his problems and you are not at fault for them.
