Hey evveryone!
I'm gettin braces today and I was just wondering if you had any tips for me!!
please HELP!!
Peace Out!

be careful and gental to your mouth after...its gonna be sore and cut up...

honestly, getting braces is not that bad! and i'm not saying that just to comfort you!

and to be honest i don't think there's any need to take an I-Pod because a) it's not very practical and b) it really doesn't take that long - yes, longer than a normal dentist appointment but it whizzes by!

the worst thing about getting braces is that the first few days it's sooo hard eating! even the softest of foods, like bread, i found soo hard to eat! but after a couple of days, you'll be back to eating normally again! and the second worst thing is getting your braces tightened..the first time you get them tightened is awful..but then once you go the other times, you're so used to it, it doesn't bother you!

hope it goes okay :) which i know it will!

Take painkillers before you go to bed, i thought i was a tough guy and would take the pain. It was one of the worst sleeping nights ever!

The first day and night wasn't that bad for me.
It was the days that followed.

taking some aspiring before going in is a good idea. if they dont give u sunglsses already ask for them, not bc it would hide it if u cried ( which u probably wont bc it does not hurt that much ) but in a situation like this u will most liely be nervous and this can make it easier for your eyes to be bothered. this happened when i went i kept blinking so much they actually gave me sunglases @_@. maybe your eyes are nto as sensitive to light as mine but if i had to do it again i would definetely want the glasses from the start. gl! ( and try to avoid meat and crunchy vegetables for a while ;) ) :cool2: :cool1:

They tend to give you sunglasses at orthodontists because of the light they use to dry the glue on your teeth.
It has an orange plastic covering on the top so it doesn't get in the ortho's eyes, and the sunglasses for me because it would be bad for my eyes.

LIES!!!!

Take painkillers, the first day you don't feel anything but the following morning SUCKS :D
Also, get some wax at the orthodontist.

QFE.
Wax is so necessary for like the first...
Forever xD
Like I swear, I had HUGE indents on the inside of my mouth (at the front, underneath my lip) because I have this horrendous overbite, and my braces didn't have much on them (Right now I have elastics and chains on them, so they're not sharp or anything). It was horrible. If I didn't have the wax..

Heck, I need some now. I have these clamps at the back of my mouth to hold the wire, and they're slightly open, so they cut my mouth a lot.

Take pain killers and use wax!

I had braces for 4 and a half years and never ONCE took a pain killer. I couldn't swallow pills, liquid medicine makes me gag and i obviously couldn't chew chewable medicine because of the pain. I actually swallowed my first pill 2 days AFTER I got my braces off (it was something to dry out my mouth so they could put a permanent retainer in my mouth and if i didn't take the pills I wouldn't be able to get the retainer). I was crazy (still am! :rotfl: )

Your cheeks will probably get cut up or get sore spots from the brackets. It's normal. I remember one time my braces were rubbing against my cheek so bad it woke me up early in the morning. My dad had to take me to the store to get wax at 6am! Wax is sold in most general drug stores if the orthodontist doesn't provide it for you for some reason.

Braces hurt for the first few days, but after that you don't even notice them! It hurt for me when they tightened the braces (remember - I didn't take any pain killers), but it doesn't hurt for more than 2-3 days.

Just remember - after all this work/pain you'll have a beautiful smile in the end! :goodvibes

When I got mine on, I couldn't eat much. I cut up the pb&j into little squares and ate rice and pudding and stuff like that. tylenol or a painkiller like that should help a bit. I guess just take it easy and use wax if there's any metal rubbing on your cheeks that hurts. good luck! and when you get em off it'll be totally worth it, I have mine off and I love em. And you can get holiday colors and stuff like that :]

to the person who said getting them on isn't bad...its different for everyone...

I was in sooooo mcuh pain as they put them on...the molar bands getting jammed in gave me a migrane which made me want to vomit.

And for some reason when i got my power chain on It hurt sooo bad...But it closed my gap in 2 weeks...like literaly...the orthodonist couldn't believe it
