My bird died

Maybe it's that I'm sick, and the kids have been sick all week, or maybe it's because I'm stressed over the pile of work I had to do for finals, but I'm all weepy about my poor Jackie Bird. I don't know how I'll tell my dd3 that Jack is dead. I noticed he hadn't chirped in a couple hours, and he makes a lot of noise, so I called to him... usually he jumps up on the side of the cage so I can see him, and chirps back at me... nothing. So I took the cage down, and found him on the bottom.
We got him over a year ago when someone abandoned him at my dh's work. His mate died early on, and then Jack was much happier (Jill was very mean to him)... recently he had become real loving, and even sat on my dh's finger. Man, I need a tissue.
Anyone have an idea of how to tell my dd? She didn't understand when Jill died, but now I think she'll get it more so I need to tell her something.

So sorry for your loss! One of mine died around this time last year- it's always hard!

Not sure what the best way to tell your DD is, but I did want to offer sympathy!

I'm so sorry for your loss :grouphug:
Did you know his age? Maybe he was old and it was time for him to leave to Heaven... And maybe that's what you should tell your DD, but as I have no kids I don't know what's the best way to do that... :guilty:

I am so sorry... :( I am a bird Mom myself (3 cockatiels & 9 budgies) and I know how much you can love the little fuzzies! I woke up not too long ago and I can hear my guys in the other room trying to get my attention to feed them.

My kids are 7 & 12 now and they still get very sad when one of our pets die (we also have 3 cats and a hamster). We have always gone out and gotten other pets as I tell them there are always other animals who need love and a home. I am not sure if you want to get another bird...??

I am so sorry. :grouphug:

Good luck with telling your DD3. I wouldn't know exactly what to say. I guess just tell her he went to heaven.

My 13yo cockatiel died a few months ago and I still miss him terribly. It's too quiet in here.

I need a tissue to. That is so sad, and I am SO sorry for your loss. Atleast you gave him a happy life when he was down and out. He died having a family, not being lonely. I hope you can find some comfort in that.

I am so sorry for oyur loss. Those of us who are animal lovers really do understand that they become part of the fmaily. heck, I even get sad when friends' animals die.:(

As far as what to tell your DD...if you believe in heaven and have discussed it with her, I'd go along those lines...something like "Jackie could have been very old, and God wanted a nice bird in Heaven, so Jackie is there now with God and flying around all happy."

I don't know what to say except I'm sorry.
