It seems like such a HUGE step.
When DS (23) started middle school, I don't remember feeling as if it was so monumental. There must be something about the baby growing up.... All this week DS has practiced letting himself in the house with a key. I will be coming home early 3 days per week, and fortunately our school has an after-hours program for the middle school kids, so he will be attending there 2 days per week. He will probably get home a few minutes before me each day, so he will have to let himself in. I'm a wreck! Naturally, he is proud and excited to be gaining more responsibility.
I guess he will always be my baby.
Now, if I could just give DS (23) a little nudge out of the nest....

I feel your pain! My dd starts middle school in 2 weeks! Orientation was yesterday and we were both a little overwhelmed. All in all she is handling it much better than old Mom here! It does feel like a tremendous step...I guess it is. Good luck to you and your ds!!!

My baby started middle school today too. He is 11 but he is still my baby. My daughter who is in 7th grade starts school tomorrow at the same school. They bring in the 6th graders for one day without the 7th and 8th graders. The school is a K-8 altho my kids will ony go there for 6-8. I like the K-8 because I think the little kids keep the middle schoolers from getting too cocky.

Even tho my daughter has been at the school for a year and had a great experience, I'm still a wreck today with my DS there on his first day. He is a great student and has lots of friends and I know he'll do well but watching him get on the bus today started my tears. When will it be 3:00 and he will be home.

If I'm like this at middle school, how will I be at college.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

Elise

WRRRRRRR.....Dream whips up a big batch of "we will get through this "smoothies....walks to the center of the screen and passes out frosty mugs to all!! A HUGE frosty mug goes to The Mystery Machine...with a box of tissues attatched!!!

Grab a mug dizneenut!!! Kim...where are ya? There's a mug here with your name on it too!!!

When I was a kid we had junior high so the kids stayed in elementary school thru 6th grade. It just seems like there is such a huge difference between 6th and 7th graders. I wonder why they changed it?

I don't know why they changed but I wish they would change back! Looking at those 8th graders and then looking at my dd and "my girls" in the Girl Scout troop makes me want to shove them all in a big protective bubble!!! I do have severe "mother hen" tendencies though! Sigh...they will be fine and so will we....my mantra for the next few weeks!!!;)

I have one DS starting middle school next Thursday & the other DS will be in 1st grade! Just got a call yesterday that my first grader is going to go to a different school than the one he went to Kindergarten at. It should be a good change as the new school is actually much closer to home.

They just grow up too fast! My 1st grader was telling me yesterday that he wanted a baby brother or sister (not going to happen)

I told him maybe a new puppy would be more fun. ;)

My DS started Monday and is enjoying it so far. I am getting used to it. BOY, those 7th and 8th graders are BIG! My DS is on the small side anyway, and this amplifies that. Some of the 7th graders are bigger than me:eek: !
