Just looking for some ideas on what others have given their children for their 16th Birthday...My DS will be having a birthday soon and I know I will be getting him the Lacrosse shoes he has wanted for some time. I also have come up with some sentimental gift ideas, but he is not very sentimental as far as keepsakes, etc.

I would appreciate anyone sharing any ideas for this age...All he has asked for is $$$$$, but that seems impersonal as my gift to him! :confused3 TIA... :) :)

Both my DD and DS were more interested in getting their license than anything else when they turned 16. So.... :thumbsup2 ....I gave them each gift cards to auto supply stores where they could pick up some cool stuff for their cars. Both loved it because they could get what they wanted and DH and I were happy because we knew what the gift bought and maybe hoped they'd think of us as they used it everyday! :moped:

A fun way to give money for a 16th birthday is to buy a 16-pack of crayons, empty it out, and replace each crayon with a rolled-up bill. Wrap the box with a note that says something like: "In honor of your 16th birthday, we wanted to get you something with a '16' on it, but the factory seems to have messed up, and they're all 'green'!"

We did it for my neice's bithrday, and it went over really well.

Thanks for the crayon idea! I think that will go over well. My DS has not even had time to start learning to drive yet, never mind look to get a car...So, the crayon idea sounds great to me...Thank you!

Nowaday, kids at the age have basically everything. What will be cool for a boy's sweet sixteen? :scratchin One of my son's friends just had his 16th bday. His father, DH, and a few male friends celebrated the Bday at our local Hooter's for lunch. The boys loved it. He got an autographed sweatshirt from the ladies too. :cloud9:

My son just turned 16 last month. His favorite gift was a nice ring his grandmother gave him. It was a very masculine gold ring with a small birthstone in the center. It looks so handsome on him. He hasn't taken it off since. He's finally growing out of video games, yahoo! He also loved getting some nice clothes from the skateboard shop. Oh and movie passes are always a hit.

I can't think of any suggestions - but I wanted to say......

Thanks "slo" much :rotfl: for your kind wishes...I will surely pass them on to him (...that is if his girlfriend will let him come home once in awhile!) :rotfl2:

I love all the sweet, sentimental, lovey gift ideas....Here's sampling of what I did last year to my sweet baby boy on his 16th birthday..
I said : "This is your new cell phone, honey. Happy birthday, I love you, oodles!" handed him a very festively wrapped gift. His eyes LIT up...Oh goody goody, goody, g..HUH?" it was a huge brick sized older than dirt version of a "cell phone".
Brilliant!
Now, I hand him over a jingling package that sounds suspiciously like car keys!
"Honey, I love you soooo much! THESE are the keys to your new car!!!!" He eyes me all doubting and I reply, "Would I give you TWO wammy gifts?' He opens them up and sure enough the ARE new shiny car keys... With my eyes welling up with tears of love for my darling first born, I say: Sweetie your new red truck in waiting for you in the garage".... With utter joy, he dashes out to the garage where he finds....all his friends and family yelling SURPRISE!!!!
Wait, before you flame me, you have to know this is a JOKING relationship we have....He got me back!!!! but good.
