My friend Goofy4Tink and I went to dinner at Tchoup Chop earlier this month when we spent a night at the Royal Pacific. It was by far the best meal of our trip, and one of the best meals that Ive ever had in my life.
We had made a reservation in advance, and were seated as soon as we arrived at Tchoup Chop. We were seated in a booth along the wall opposite the bar. When we first approached the booth, I didnt think that the low back on the seat would be very comfortable, but when I sat down, I was surprised by how comfortable the booth was. The tables were well spaced apart, so I never felt that the diners at the neighboring tables were right on top of us (which is my main issue with dining at most restaurants over at Disney World). Even as the restaurant got more crowded, the noise level never became an issue.
I really liked the atmosphere at Tchoup Chop. The earthy colors and dim lighting really creates a relaxing atmosphere, which is very welcome after a busy and stimulating day running around the theme parks. An impressive bar fills one wall of the restaurant, and adds a splash of color and light to the restaurant.
Manny and his team were our servers for the evening. Our servers were very attentive, and very knowledgeable on the menu items. They helped us with our menu choices, since we both were interested in several different items on the menu.
Our servers brought some shrimp chips to our table to start. Since neither of us like seafood, neither of us tried them, but they looked light and crispy.

For starters, Goofy4Tink ordered the spinach and apple salad, which was a special that night. The salad also had onions and pumpkin seeds. Goofy4Tink said the salad was light and healthy.

I started off with the Crispy Kalua Chicken Egg Rolls, which were served with an Orange-Chile Dipping Sauce. The egg rolls were incredible--probably the best egg rolls Ive ever had. The thin shell was crisp and flakey. The dipping sauce was very tangy with a slight kick.

Goofy4Tink ordered the Smoked Sea Salt Grilled Filet of Beef Tenderloin for her entrée. It was served with a large portion of garlic mashed potatoes, and some asparagus. She said that it was the best steak she has had in years, and it was cooked to perfection. She also enjoyed the mashed potatoes, and said that it was nice to get asparagus that was cooked properly.
Beef Tenderloin
I ordered the Mongolian Barbeque Grilled Pork Tenderloin for my entrée. I havent ordered pork in a restaurant in a long time, so I didnt realize that you can now order pork at your preferred temperature, so I opted to order it medium. This was nothing like the dry, overdone pork that mom used to make. There were three pork tenderloins in a delicious sauce that were juicy and tender. The pork was served with stir fired lomein noodles and vegetables. The lomein bursting with flavor, and the veggies were nice and crisp.

For dessert, we both ordered Emerils Signature Banana Cream Pie. Manny warned us that the portion was huge, but we still ordered two slices. When he brought the pie to us, I was surprised that just how huge the slices were! The pie was absolutely amazing. The graham cracker crust was thick, sweet, and crispy. The banana cream filling was nicely chilled, and covered five or six layers of banana slices. There were flakes of decadent chocolate on top of the pie. The banana cream pie was a lot lighter than I expected it to be. Neither of us came anywhere near finishing it, and I was disappointed that we didnt have a refridgerator in our room so that we could pack it up to eat for breakfast the next morning.

Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Tchoup Chop, and highly recommend it. I will definitely be going back the next time I go to Universal.
