That is a tough call for his age. We purchased the Thomas train table when our first boy was only 1 1/2. He plays with it every day for probably a total of 4-6 hours a day. Not exaggerating here.
I have heard that by age 8ish they start to out grow the train table. But there are many pros to owning one.

[*]Kids will love coming over to your house to play with it.
[*]Your hubby will like to play with it too.
[*]The resale is great for such items if they are gently used. Check out Ebay.
We bought ours at ACMoore by using 40 or 50% off coupons that come in the weekly flyer.
