You know what your afternoon is going to be like when the receptionist finds you at work, and says... "The school nurse is on the phone"...

That was at 2 pm. .. When I FINALLY arrived home at 730 pm... my daughter was the proud owner of a hard half cast...

She was playing on the monkey bars at recess and well, she got a buckle fracture on her right wrist.

First we went to the pediatrician.. (I can't see tell, go get an Xray). Then to the hospital, wait for outpatient registry, go get some quarters to feed the meter so you don't get towed, get registered, then go to outpatient services, and then finally the ER!

Then at the ER, the PA (outstanding service) tells me that they don't cast in the ER anymore! I've never heard that... they casted my son, when he had a greenstick fracture almost three years ago.

My baby! So now my daughter is following on my sons footsteps.. he had one buckle fracture at 3, and a greenstick fracture at age 6 (he has broken/fractured both of his arms!)

Oddly enough, my DH and I have never broken anything... Now I can't say its just a boy thing!

Awww, poor little baby! :(

What's a buckle fracture? I've never heard that term before. Green stick I know. :)

Poor thing!

I hope she's feeling better soon. She'll have fun having everyone sign her cast :)

Poor thing! :( I hope it heals quickly. {{hugs}}

A buckle fracture (laymans terms) happened when they land of their wrist basically with the hand outstretched... (picture a 90 degree angle)

Her wrist bone "buckled" under the force and pressure....

I'm sending quick-healing pixie dust for your DD. :)

Well, atleast it wasn't very bad. It's good to get hurt sometimes. Get some scrapes and bruises. She'll be alright though.

Oh no! I hope she mends quickly. :)

You're poor little one! I hope she heals up quickly! {{hugs}}

Your dd heard about my son's buckle fracture (same wrist) so she had to copy him.;) He fell out of the swing instead of the monkey bars though.:p We went through the same thing. Only 1 person in the ER knew how to put on a splint (after dr's office, xrays at the hospital, outpatient care, etc.). His dr didn't want the ER to put on a cast-we had to wait 10 days for his dr to put a cast on. All in all, that first day, my son had been at the dr/hospital for about 5 hours.:rolleyes:

Good luck to your dd. What color cast did she get?:)

{{{hugs}}} for her. I hope it heals quickly too. Last year our school got playground equipment & the first day out there a girl broke something on the monkey bars. Needless to say--no more monkey bars.

Hoping she is back in the swing of things (well, maybe not the swing :teeth: ) real soon, Cindy.

:( Hope she's feeling better soon!

Ouch. Sarah has had a couple of fractures in her life. I know how much it hurts to see your child endure the pain of a broken bone. And I know how much a broken wrist hurts (although I fell off a motorcycle and not a set of monkey bars). I hope she heals quickly and without too much discomfort.

Thanks everyone... she is just following in her brothers footsteps...

Now off to find an orthopedist which is part of our health network...
