ok, others who have booked via AAA, when i called to find out my exact breakdown of room rate with AAA discount, tickets, dining plan (well i know that much of it i guess) she told me that she can't give me the exact room rate b/c disney books packages as a whole and we wont know the room cost, tickets, etc

HUH?

this doesn't sound right to me. anyone else using AAA find this to be true?

how do i know if i got the best deal i can get if she can't tell me the breakdown... what am i missing?

It sounds like you booked a package through AAA and no she wouldn't have a breakdown of the costs for each item since it is a package price. If you want to compare you could go to the disney web site and price each item seperately and total eveything out and then you would know how good of a deal you got.

Yes. Disney just gives them a package price. When I figured each part up separately I found that I wasn't getting a good deal by booking a package. I may not be able to add the dining plan on by booking room only and then getting my tickets but when I figured the $$ to $$ cost I will be better off without dining (for us), unless they come out with a free dining plan again for January. But I honestly find that with most package deals...not just from Disney or AAA.

I agree. A package price is just that - a package. It is a total price for everything. Whoever put together the package figured out what each item cost, but the company selling the package just has the grand total.

Interesting!

So a package is not always the best rate it sounds like. Isn't getting a package my only option if I want the meal plan?

As I understand it AAA doesn't discount theme park tickets, correct?

So I can call WDW to find out what the room rate is with AAA then I add the meal plan (which we want)

Thanks in advance for helping me work through this...

You can't add the meal plan to a AAA discount room only rate. You can only get the dining plan with a package, CRO does not book AAA packages.

Anytime I've tried to break out the cost of a full price package, it's usually pretty close to the sum of everything separate. AAA's brochures only list the total price of the package, they don't break it out.

We just booked through aaa and they beat the same identical package that disney offered by $600. Beach club, air fare and meal plan, 8 day park hopper

With AAA, the package includes the discounted room, the tickets and the dining. So you can ask your TA what the room-only rate is, and subtracting that from your package total, you can figure out what the tickets and dining are costing you. If you want dining, and a discounted package, AAA is your only choice.

One other thing I found with AAA if you don't specify that you want a standard room they will book the preferred room which adds to the cost.

Preferred room at a value resort are ones closest to the food court. They charge an extra $12 + tax per night. At moderate and deluxe resorts they charge extra for water, garden or courtyard views.
