My poor Dad has been in the hospital since friday with problems with his heart rate (atrial fibliration sp?) and has been improving. I was up visiting him earlier and he told me that his room-mate, an 83yo man who had fallen, was at his bed-side this morning telling him to get out of his bed and started hitting Dad's knee with his cane! My Dad got on the buzzer and was calling someone to come in to help. One of the male nurses was already on his way as they were watching Dad's monitor at the nurses station and his heart rate had been spiking! The nurse was running in ready to revive him!

Dad is ok and his room-mate feels very bad. He woke up confused and thought Dad was one of his sons. The hospital has been very good and the male nurse has been in the room since - I also made sure I told them I didn't want Dad to be left alone. They are waiting for a room to open up and they are moving the guy to a private room so no-one else will be bothered. The guy is taking it rough as he is embarassed, his wife died 5 months ago and he cries a lot. He was afraid my Dad was going to sue him - we told the hospital that we are not like that and for him not to worry.

Sooooooo...what a day. I am home for a bit before I go back up. My Mom is 80 and we don't want her to be alone. We are hoping Dad can get home by tuesday.

:grouphug: to your Dad. That must have been scary. I hope they can move the other patient before he hurts anyone or even himself.

Sorry to hear about that. When my grandfather was about that same age, he was in the hospital and was sharing the room with a man about the same age. A few days later, they had to be separated. They did not get along. My aunt is in a nursing home. You would be shocked by some of the stories my Aunt tells us. Everything from fighting love triangles to fights over which channel is going to be on the tv.

That is scary!!!!!!

I was in a rehab hospital for about 4 weeks after breaking my femur. I was thankfully in a private room. I was laying in bed one night minding my own business and the old lady from across the hall comes in my room to use my bathroom. She was confused and thought she was at home. I called the nurses desk and whispered for someone to get back to my room NOW!!!!! I didn't want the old lady coming out of the bathroom and freaking out with some guy in her bed. LOLOLOLOLOL The nurses came and got her, and had someone sit with her 24 hours per day from then on. I got teased about that until I left the hospital.

There was an old man at my Aunt's nursing home that did not know where his room was (he required more care than was available at that location and was later transfered). Anyway, my aunt said for some reason, he was always trying to crawl in bed with her or he would wait until she left her room and then crawled in her bed. We used to joke and say her bed was softer :)

Jill,
So sorry to hear about your Dad. It's scary enough to be in the hospital dealing with health problems, but then to have to deal with that! I hope your Dad will be home soon :grouphug:

Not sure if you ever read my reply to something you had posted to me (I don't even remember what thread it was on). But anyway, I had written how we don't have a Disney trip planned this year  . We are planning for August 2007, probably at least a 2 week trip. But last night we were at my in-laws and several family members said they would like to come along. Not too sure how I feel about that one yet...

I would imagine you have a trip coming up soon (I'm thinking maybe you told me April?????) Anyway, if you are going soon, have a wonderful time, and I hope again that your Dad is okay. :goodvibes
