Does anyone else have a child who does this occasionally? It really drives me nuts! First of all, you can't trust him. This morning he was into the GLITTER! It's all over his bedroom floor... the really fine fine fine glitter. At least he wasn't cooking though! :earseek:

My DD used to do this occasionally, and it was a lot for my son. Somehow their sleep patterns would get out of whack.

And boy can they make some SERIOUS messes when no one's around to watch!

My DD has gotten up in the middle of the night before, but she has a CD player next to her bed that I tell her she can lay in bed and listen to it. She has many "book on tapes" that she listenes to when she can't sleep. She definitly knows that staying out of bed is not allowed. :sad2:

My son does this sometimes too-- but he also knows it means he can only get out of bed- and relay down w/ the TV in the living room. It also better only happen on rare occasion and not become a habit (to make sure he's not getting up just to watch TV). I would think you could instill this in an 8 yr old so they weren't getting into things and making a mess. They would most certainly be able to understand.

Happens frequently with DS who is 6. Usually he is found playing Playstation in his room.

I leave for work around 3:30-it is not unusual for him to wake up and stay awake from that point on. Anything past 8 in the evening is a stretch.

DD9 does this on occasion. It makes me a wreck to find out she was up while I was sleeping! She knows she is not allowed to turn on the TV or do any projects etc, but she will move things. Like the night before her Christmas Party at school, she got up in the wee hours and checked out the gift I had ready for her teacher. She re-made the name tag, wrote little notes all over the outside of the card and told me in the moring that I had taped the card on the wront side, but she was up in the night and fixed it (so much for the project thing). She has changed the clothes I had laid out for her, set out a change of items for her lunch box and she told me once she went outside to get her jump rope off the patio! (the scared smilie is not working this morning)
She has been given strict instructions she is never to unlock any door and go outside. In fact I nearly grounded her until she is 35 for that one. Oh...the grey hairs are finding their way into my scalp like little unfriendly aliens taking over!

The only time my DD got up was when she was really little. I worked the late night shift at that time midnight to 5am. I came home and found the kitchen chair next to the counter and all the frosting eaten off of the cupcakes. I have no clue how DH slept through all this because after eating all the frosting she threw up, I know this because I was the lucky one that got to clean up the floor outside the bathroom!
