I think your oral surgeon/dentist would recommend what he/she feels is best. If you feel comfortable with the health provider, then trust the decision. I had mine out at age 19, 3 crooked, one impacted with just sedation so I could keep my mouth relaxed that long and locals and it was completely fine, but I have never had any fear of the dentist. My relaxed mien at the dentist might have dictated the drug choices, I don't know.

I had no pain during the extractions, and healed easily, went Christmas shopping the next day looking like a chipmunk. (Chip or Dale?).

My DS15 is having his out next week. We are going with an oral surgeon and he is going to be put under.

I was knocked out for mine, and they hadn't even come in through the gums yet. My mouth just didn't have enough room for them, which is why I had them pulled. I was 16.

Here's a suggestion if the bleeding won't stop - soak 2 tea bags in very cold water for just a minute and then place the bags where the teeth were removed, close jaws very gently and hold in place for several minutes at a time.
My daughter was still bleeding heavily several hours after her surgery, and the oral surgeon suggested this - it worked almost immediately!

BTW, she hates tea but tried it.

I only had 3 (born with 3 not 4)and two had become cracked and infected. I was around 30 and my twins were around a year or so old. I did the twilight sleep and ended up having no stitches.

TOTALLY did not need to do twilight sleep, should of saved the money and done regular just suped up novacaine!

Afterwards they were holding my hand and walking with me as if I was an invalid, I said I was fine and walked away from them, being cautious but was totally aware of what was going on. They seemed kind of surprised!

I had all 4 of mine taken out at once. 2 were impacted, the other 2 weren't. I was out, my choice. My insurance only paid for the anesthesia for the 2 impacted ones.. I did not care!

I was fine in a few days.

I had mine done when I was 22- all 4 at once, done under general anesthesia- worst pain of my life! C-section was nothing, knee surgery was nothing nothing nothing compare to getting those 4 impacted wisdom teeth out. I couldn't fully open my mouth for well over a month- I remember staying in my dark room for days after the surgery, couldn't eat anything that wasn't liquid

I had a hideous case for my wisdom teeth. All 4 were impacted and the 2 on the bottom were stuck in the jaw so they had to take some of the jaw out when they were removed.

After surgery they gave me percocet which made me vomit, that resulted in a dry socket and then infection. I was this close to being hospitalized. I lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks.

I really didnt return to normal for at least 6 weeks.

My DD had her 4 wisdom teeth out last year when she was 16. She was put under since they were impacted. She didn't have any bad reactions to the annesthesia, but insisted as soon as she woke up that she wanted to go home.

Please make sure that you fill the prescription for Vicodin or other pain meds before the surgery. I thought the office would be sending these home with us. Nope, had to go to pharmacy on the way home. And while she waited in the car her pain medication from the surgery wore off. She was not happy.
