I finally made an appt to get my 1st tattoo, at the end of October!

I'm excited, its NOT going to be Disney but still wanted to share!

For those of you with tattoos above your ankle, how do you like them, any suggestions??

What will your tattoo look like?! My nieces and nephews have tattoos on their ankles and they like them. One niece has a thin floral vine type wreath around her ankle, another niece has a butterfly on hers and my nephew has a tribal band but his is actually around his lower leg, a bit above the ankle.

I couldn't do tattoos -- I cannot stand needles! Having blood drawn is bad enough!!!

Good luck w/your tattoo!

I have a butterfly on the inside of my ankle. It's my favorite of my tattoos (I have 4). My others are on my lower back. I thought the one on my ankle would be more painful since I'm pretty bony there, but it was not bad at all. The ankle tattoo hurt the least. What are you going to get?

I was thinking of getting a daisy, white with an accent color yellow.
Green ivys on each side.

I like the idea of it being on the inside of the ankle.
I've never seen one there. I was going to get it on the outside.

I'm worried about the pain too.

The best thing about a tattoo...it only hurts when it's being done.

Meaning as soon as the needle is lifted...the pain stops. (not like a piercing...which will be painful for few days.)

I won't lie - the pain shocked me at first...but really, after the initial "shock" of it all...you kinda ease into it. Bring a friend to talk to while you get it done...just to keep your mind off of it.

Best of luck to you! I'm thinking of going next week for my Disney tattoo!

Just a thought for you. My artist has said that white fades quickly (since there's not a lot of pigment in it) and needs touch-ups to keep it looking fresh. The pain is not bad at all. It feels like someone is drawing on you with a sharp pencil.

Maybe I'll go with a sunflower then.
I'm going to a highly recommended artist in the area I'm sure she'll lead me in the right direction.

Stinker--what are you getting??

I'm very at ease with needles, I think I'll be fine.

Keep suggestions coming!!

Hey Stinkerbelle -- what kind of tatt are you getting and where are you putting it?!

If I weren't freaked out by needles and the pain they cause, I'd get a small Mickey head (black, 3 circle type for ears and head) and I'd "hide" it ... low on my pelvis (below the bikini line) for only DH to find!!!!! ;)

I have...

left ankle: OUTSIDE Cheshire Cat, INSIDE Tinkerbell
right ankle: OUTSIDE Fantasia Mickey, INSIDE Figment
between my shoulder blades: a tribal sun with the Eye of Ra in the middle (a tribute to my nephew)

Yes, it hurts! But it's also addicting!! I already have 3 more in mind that I want to do!

With mine thats on my outside ankle, what hurt the worst was the way I had to sit with my leg up. Since having my kids, my hips hurt in akward positions.

The best part about the ankle, you only have to let people see it if you want to. I could wear socks/sneakers all summer if I didnt want anyone to know about it. But eh its my tat if ya dont like it dont look.

Mine was done on a dare, the next one will be on my lower back, and a tribute to my daughters. It will be a sun rise over a mountain scene, with both of their names in the horizon- I'm waiting only because they have very long first names and I'm not sure I can take it all in one sitting. And my tat guy is gone to CT instead of here in VT soooooooooo I need to find someone whose as artistic as him

Please think long and hard about getting a tattoo in a visible place. I personally dislike them and make "judgments" about people when I see them. Wrong? Probably, but I'm being honest here.

I know that you don't care what I think, and you shouldn't. But prospective employers might be old and prejudiced like I am and not give you a job because of your tattoo. Being tattooed is not a protected class, so you can't really sue if you don't get a job because of it.

Ooohhh, I have to disagree with you on that one. I have my cute little purple gecko on the outside of my ankle, right above the bone, and it felt more like a cigarette or something hot burning my skin. The tattoo artist said that the ankle is one of the most painful areas because the skin is right near the bone, no fat to buffer it. However, it was worth it, I love my little lizard. I consider myself to have a high threshold for pain, I usually do not have novocaine when having a tooth drilled. Stinkerbelle is right. It is a tolerable pain, because it stops immediately when the needle stops. Get a small one to start out with.

I agree that a visible tattoo can affect someone's opinion of you, but I don't think a possible employer has any business eyeing a potential employee's ankles.

My DH had a pair of ruby red lips done on his behind, and he said it didn't hurt at all...

I am so much like you but when you get a nice bit of artwork done it is amasing how tolerant of them you are LOL. I can't even get blood taken without feeling like I will pass out but my 3 tatoo's are just fine no problems at all. I have one on my right calf on the outside and one on my left shoulder at the side and one on my right shoulderblade. I have 2 more to get to finnish off my collection.

I have a thin floral band around my right ankle. On a scale of one to ten, honestly, the pain was about a two. I kept waiting for it to really hurt, but it never did. My tattoo artist, Derek, was a big hunk o' Eye Candy, though, so I may have been a bit distracted.

I followed all the aftercare instructions, and had no problems with infection. It did itch like crazy for a few days while it healed!

I really like it, and happy I got it done. :)

I have a small flowers/vine/heart thing over my heart and I have a "medium" sized sun and moon on my upper thigh. The sun looks like he's a bit stoned! :rotfl:

Surprisingly, even with a bathing suit on, the one over my heart doesn't show!

The ones on my thigh are easily hidden with shorts.

I love them! And have thought about another, but I'm not sure where or what!

I think even more conservative employers are not so worried about tattoos as long as they aren't of like satanic faces or stuff like that. I work in a pretty conservative field, and I've seen lots of tattoos on co-workers.

I too am a big wimp with needles, but loved getting my tatoo. Mine is on my back between my shoulder blades it is a sun/moon, my teeth chattered when the tattoo artist was near my spine, very cool! When I was 18 I told Dad I wanted one he knew I was such a baby about needles I would never go through with it so he said he would take me to get one for my birthday.... I shocked him and got one, he was so shocked (and mad at himself) he thought he had nothing to worry about, boy did I surpise him!

heheh...I love stories of "reverse psychology" backfiring! heheh

I'm not concerned about my employer or future employers. I think it is accepted today and its not going to be "gaudy" or all over my body.

Plus I can keep it hidden with socks/pants if need be but I doubt it!!

If any of you can post pics, I would love to see them.

No offense to the poster that posted that...but seriously...it's YOUR body...YOU do what YOU want with it. If someone is going to "judge" you for it...that's THEIR issue...not yours.

ok - here's mine...it's about the size of a tic-tac container.
this is what I brought in:

and this is it on my body: (it's on my "spare tire"...hey - i know it's a bad pic - YOU try taking a picture of something on your back while looking in a mirror! hehehe)

most people at first glance don't know WHAT it is...which is fine with me. :)
