My 15 yr old niece almost died last night!! :(

I am so happy to hear that she is ok now. What a scary incident. Makes your Holidays a little more special this year, doesn't it. God Bless you and your family.

OMG! I cried as I read what she said to her dad as well.

I'm so glad she's all right. How scary for her whole family. :grouphug:

I remember you talking about your nieces' allergies. I'm so glad she's ok. It must have been terrible for her and her parents. I know how her dad felt, as my kids have had anaphylactic reactions before, and you just pray and beg God in your mind to let them be safe and let them get better.

I once went to a lecture by Dr. Wood, a famous food allergy doctor from Johns Hopkins. He said, accidents will happen; it's how you handle them that matters. It sounds like her mom and dad handled it just right. This is a tough time of the year for kids with food allergies. I hope your niece is all better and others are being very careful during the holiday season.

As a mom of kids with food allergies, I'm wondering, do they have her on steroids or other meds? Did they do anything else at the hospital, like using activated charcoal or a steroid or benadryl drip?

I believe they did the benedryl drip..but not positive.

Cruisin,

I remember your sons allergies well....about 2 yrs ago I posted about my nieces not being able to fly Southwest due to the peanut issue. You responded quite a few times with advice and your own stories. I'm sure you remember that thread as it took quite a few wrong turns! :teeth:

Oh yes, I do remember that thread quite well.

That's why I usually avoid posting on peanut allergy threads. I only lurk on them ;)

First off I am soooooooo glad your neice is ok. That was a very close call and reminds me of when my daughter was caught in and choking on a seatbelt that engaged and tightened and wouldnt come undone. I felt so scared and like every second was a minute long trying to get her able to breathe again.

Second crap just happens and no matter how vigilant you are with something like that an accident is bound to happen. You can't prevent everything.
The good news is your family thought with their heads, called 911 and did what needed to be done.
Again I am glad she is safe.

OH my goodness, Kim! :earseek: How horrible for your family. I am so glad everything turned out ok.

As the mother of a peanut allergic son, I thank you for the reminder to be extra careful, especially during the holidays when he is eating a lot of foods he normally doesnt.

I am so glad she is OK. That is very scary

Thanks again guys for your support. I can not wait to see her tomorrow and just give her the BIGGEST hug....did I mention she is my god child as well? :flower:

As the mother of a little boy with severe peanut/tree nut allergies, this is my worst nightmare ever. I am so very happy to hear that she is OK. Many hugs to all of you. :grouphug:
