I am so ticked right now and it could be the heat outside, I'm a little tired today, the kids are cranky, and/or 16 yo DD leaves for 5 weeks tomorrow but...we just came back from our local Pub 99 and 13 yo DS had asked for a Mango Iced-Tea-I need to mention here this waitress knows the kids by name and age-anyhow he takes a big gulp makes a face and looks at DH and says Dad this tastes really funny. He tastes it and tells me it has alcohol in it, I taste it and belch! I call the waitress over and show her the drink and tell her to please ask the bar to be more careful...she laughs and says oops I must have grabbed the wrong drink...:furious: she brings DS his "children's cup" drink back and laughs as she says he had a nice Long Island Iced Tea. I am really ticked, yes this is a mistake but she totally blew it off. I guess maybe I wanted an "I'm sorry, my mistake". I dunno maybe I am in a really bad mood today because when I waitressed I would have never not apologized and profusely if I had done something like this! :confused3

I'd be mad too.... what a stupid mistake to make. And for her treat it so non chalant, WTH? But don't let it ruin your weekend, at least he knew better then to actually drink it. And I remember being young and accidentally drinking alcohol and now besides a screwdriver now and then, I totally HATE the taste of it.

I would be mad at her attitude. I am sure that is what you are saying. Seems like you can understand she made a mistake but then to just laugh it off--I would be upset too. Thankfully it was a drink you could taste the alcohol in and DS could tell something was off.

Sounds like all the beverages come from the same area, alcohol or not. If that's true people are bound to get the wrong drink eventually. Just bad luck that it ended up being adult drink to child customer. Could have just as easily been only the wrong juice or soft drink.

What did you want expect her to do, kill herself?

OMG, were you at Epcot today??? My hubby and I dined at Alfredo di Roma and next to us was a nice family with 3 young (probably no older than 15) girls who all ordered virgin daquiries (I cannot spell that!) Well ALL of them were served REAL drinks. The adults took it in stride and didn't freak out but it was pretty funny!

The waiter actually asked if he could take away the drink and the Mom was like "No, I'll keep 'em, thanks!" :rotfl2:

It was an honest mistake as there were no kiddie type cups.

::yes:: I totally agree- I would also be mad.

It was an honest mistake, and if it were to happen to my ds10, I'd probably just laugh it off and call him Daquiri Boy or something like that just to bug him. ;)

Something similar happened to me when I was about 13. My dad and I were at our favorite Mexican restaurant and he ordered a screwdriver and I ordered an orange juice. Well, I got the screwdriver and he got the oj.

I wouldn't give it a second thought, in fact I probably would laugh about it.
I continue to be amazed at the things people get upset about :confused3

It was an honest mistake, just be glad that your DS said something and didn't drink the whole thing.

Rum, Gin, Vodka, Triple Sec, Sour Mix topped with Coke! yummy for adults....not tasty when expecting Mango Ice Tea!!!

ITA
:::yes:::

That happened to my niece. She's 17 and ordered a virgin Pina Colada. She told the waiter it had alcohol in it. He insisted it didn't. It most certainly did.

Speaking as the sister of a man who committed suicide 16 years ago this month - I won't recommend that. :guilty:

I don't believe the OP was out of line for being upset. Yes, we all mistakes but an apology was definitely in order, a "hee hee, my bad" was not.

Oooooops.

I remember my visit to WDW in 1996 I was 17 and I wanted buy some ciggarettes and was asked for I.D I didnt know you were unable to smoke under the age of 18.

It was probably a mistaske but still understand your concerns.

DITTO!

Life is too short, guys....don't sweat the small stuff. (and YES!!!!! this IS most certainly small stuff)

I think I would have brought it to management's attention. Yes, it was a mistake, but it still shouldn't have happened. I know that my 7 year old son is always thirsty and will drink ANYTHING, the kid even likes rice milk, enough said! I know that if he were served alcohol in his drink, he would probably drink it without saying anything and I would end up with a drunk 7 year old, which obviously isn't a good thing.

Someone needs to tell the folks who wanted to order underage drinks for their kids (from last week's thread) where to find these restaurants...
