My 15yo DS James knows your 12yo's frustration. The high school band was supposed to go to NYC to perform in a band competition. When the first "Orange" alert happened, our school board decided to cancel all out-of-state field trips until further notice. I posted this some time ago and I remember the comments from the DISers in the NYC area who asked if they were "bad parents" because they didn't move away from an obvious terrorist target. Between terrorist alerts and SARS, I shudder to think what life is going to be like for these kids. We can't shelter them forever, or they will turn out like a bunch of scared sheep.
I'm sorry that your DD is going to miss the opportunity to go to Toronto and Niagara Falls. And I'm sorry that the kids of our country have to be ruled by a bunch of "concerned" adults who seem to think that burying one's head in the ground is safer than going on with life.
Just to clarify. If a parent thinks that their child should not go to Toronto, NYC, or anywhere else, I fully support their right to make that decision. I just don't like having someone cram their decisions about what is right and wrong for my child down my throat.
