Years of seeing my favorite teams and players victimized by east coast bias has made me pessimistic, so I was very surprised that the baseball writers of America selected the most valuable player in the American League as the leagues MVP instead awarding some bogus lifetime achievement award.
I have heard some people argue that even though Justin Morneaus stats were better than those of some of the other MVP candidates, he shouldnt win because he doesnt play the most demanding defensive position. There may be some validity to that argument. So, Joe Mauer, the first catcher to win a batting title in the history of the American League may have also been a good choice for MVP!
