I have a couple of FP scheduled during the 4-6 window but we have printed tickets for the party. What do I need to do to use my FP ? We are off property so no magic bands. Do I need to visit a ticket window and exchange the paper tickets for cards?

Yes. You have to have something with the rfid in it for the FP machines to read.

We did exactly this and were at Disney Springs the day prior and stopped by Guest Services. The rep was able to give us three plastic tickets in short order with our MVMCP tics on them. Was glad we did this so no time was wasted ahead of the party doing this.

We went to the party Sunday. We had MBs but I brought the paper tickets because I did not trust Disney IT to use my party ticket at 4pm at the “Event”tapstyles and not my park hopper for the following day which was also on my MB. I could not risk it getting messed up and having to waste time at GS. We lined up at the party tapstyles around 3:15. At 3:30’ they started to give out plastic tickets to those with paper tickets. They had hand held scanners and just walked though the lines. We tapped in at 3:45 exactly with our new plastic party tickets. Our FPs were still on our MBs so we used those for the rides. I guess they were all linked up somehow.

My understanding is that if you use the party tapstyles, it will only read party tickets, not regular ones. Also, your FPs aren't "on" your Magic Bands - they're in your MDE account, and your Magic Band can access anything that's in your MDE account.

Yes I agree that in theory, if I used my linked party tickets from my MDE (which connects all that information to my MB) by scanning my MB at the "event" tapstyles, it should just use my party ticket when I check in at 4PM. However, after seeing reports of people's tickets getting messed up and the wrong ticket "used" by Disney, I did not want to risk it. Disney IT does not impress me much, and it would have soaked up a good hour waiting at GS during this very busy time to get that straightened out if it had happened. So I printed the tickets and used those to get the plastic cards to tap into the park. It took zero extra time for me to do that, and it provided me control and peace of mind.

I agree that the FPs aren't "on" my MB, but I just made the comment that my MB worked to tap in for FPs even though I used the plastic cards for admission (since the tickets were linked to MDE). This is just so people know that if you actually ordered the plastic cards for Party tickets and linked those to MDE, you can use either the card or your MB to tap in for a FP. Just giving options.

I saw reports of that happening the first year that magic bands came out (so, what, 4 or 5 years ago?), but as far as I know there haven't been recent reports of it happening.

I think it still happens sometimes if the tickets are not correctly "prioritized" by a CM, if you have multiple tickets linked to MDE. I'm not sure of the dates of the reports that I saw of it happening with Party tickets. In any case, it was not worth the potential headache to me if Disney messed it up.

If I was reading correctly, there was some reports in the fast pass + thread of people's fastpasses being cancelled in this situation. Basically, if you are entering for a party using only a party ticket, you are not supposed to be able to make any FPs prior to the real start of the party. Again, not sure if this is correct or not, just what I read in another thread.

FYI, we attended MVMCP last year as our first park day, when our MDE account had both the party tickets, and 6 day PH's. We had no issues.

I did go back and check on this. If you look at post #10 in the FP+ thread, you are not permitted to make FPs when entering on an event ticket. The fast passes you made from 4-6 will not be accessible unless you use a regular ticket day on this day.

That is correct for some but not for others. No one is sure why some people could or could not book FPs with just a party ticket. Some people who could book FPs with just a party ticket then got an email that they had to cancel some FPs or Disney would cancel them for lack of adequate tickets.

BUT many people, myself included, were able to book FPs for our regular ticketed days and for our Party ticket-only day. We went this past weekend. Had 2 day tickets and one party ticket. We used ONLY the party ticket for the party day, so we went to the parks 3 days total. I was able to book FPs for all three days (booked party FPs only between 4-6pm since party tickets only get you in to park at ~4pm). Never got the dreaded cancellation email, and all FPs worked fine for all three days. It is hit or miss if you get the email. I'll link the other thread that has much more detailed information. But it can be done. I had no other ticket media in my account, and I was able to book and use 3 days worth of FPs with 2-day tickets and one party ticket (which was used on a separate day from the regular park tickets; ie we did not enter a park on the party day until the party).
