We have a long (to me) drive to Orlando, more than likely will take about 8 hours including stops. Our trip is short, just two full days at the Magic Kingdom. I am tempted to add in the MVMCP the day we arrive, but am not sure how realistic this is with children (6 and 8). This is a trip with extended family and these are my nieces, so I don't have close personal experience to judge how reasonable it would be to be go go go at the parks after that kind of drive, and fear waiting until the day of to decide as I assume the party will sell out. Their mother was noncommittal when I tried asking (and I don't think she realizes what the party is), so I wanted to throw it out there to those who are more experienced.

I don't like to schedule something that is non-refundable on my arrival day in case unforeseen circumstances occur that delay my arrival.

I would pass on the party but see if you can go see YeHaa Bob at PORS, do a fireside sing-a-long with Chip and Dale ( I think they still do that)...I think those things are free but I think they sell Smores kits for the fire thing.

You can also book dinner at Boma at AKL and then walk around to see animals with night vision goggles. There is so much to do...if staying on property you can even watch a movie poolside with snacks. There is also Splitsville and the AMC theaters at DTD. Basically most peopel really last at the party til 10:00-10:30, then the crowds really die down. If the kids can't go go go at the party they really will not be able to see and do it all. WDW is overwhelming on a good day when you have had a good nights sleep---adding a party to a day of car riding for 8 hours is tough.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. You never know what will happen and make you miss the party. We usually drive as well and it's exhausting. Nothing worse than starting off your trip exhausted. Is there another night you can schedule it? Maybe do something else that night?

Not sure when you are going. Most do not sell out.

If you've planned a several hours rest time before it starts at 4 pm then I say go for it. But to be done driving, check in, and then go with no rest? Yikes.

I would pass on the party too. If you do choose to do it, i would leave super early (like 4 or 5 am) try to not stop much, and arrive at the resort shortly after noon to check in and rest and be at the party by 4:00. If you do that, I would choose another park for your second day and you would have a day and a half at MK and a day at another park. We travel a lot and have learned that pushing the drive hard, is not any harder for us than stopping a lot and we get there quicker! We do an 8 hour trip on a regular basis and we mostly do it with one 5-10 minute stop where we potty, gas and grab food. We have an 8 year old.
