DD sees the Muzzy commercial all the time and keeps begging me to get it for her. I wanted to know from those who have tried it, is it worth it? It would be great to do over the summer while school is out, but if it's not worth the $$$ I'd rather pass. TIA!

Muzzy is a language learning program for kids created by BBC. They offer different languages in a cartoon format on DVD's. It is $199 per level :scared1:.

Yikes.

Have you been to www.starfall.com? I bet your DD would like that and it's free.

Wow that site looks great! Thanks.

Muzzy is a language learning program though. DD wants to learn Spanish.

I will use the site you recommended, it will be great for summer activities before she starts 1st grade in the fall.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant language arts.

I remember seeing a Hooked on Phonics Spanish program at Big Lots a few months ago. It was really cheap - like $15 - $20. It might be a first step to see if she's really into it.

my kids put regular movies into Spanish or French when they watch them sometimes, I swear they learned some spanish from doing that, and from dora and diego LOL
we also thought about Muzzy, but too pricey for me right now.
a friend of mine found a great workbook series for learning spanish, its like those big workbooks for grade levels you see in walmart or staples.
I actually think she said she found it at staples.
anyway its age appropriate levels, and it looks good, I am going to try it, to further the language along.

I just wanted to give a big KUDOS to all of you encouraging your kids to learn another language. Besides adding a new skill to their learning inventory, you're investing in brain development.

THANK YOU (from a retired -due-to-disability French teacher)

Try your library too. They usually have some basic language learning books and audio programs.

My library uses a program called Mango that is somewhat similar to the format of Rosetta Stone. It is free to use for anyone who has a library card. Your library may have something similar, but I don't know how appropriate would be for a young child.

As for your original question, I have no idea how effective Muzzy is.
Starfall is good, especially for emergent readers in English.
