Must You Vacation Same Week Every Year?

Do you have to vacation at DVC the same week every year?

 • Yes, my situation doesn't allow greater flexibility.

 • No, I can travel at different times.

Greetings!

Like many DVCers - and too many politicians - when I see controversy on the DIS, I think "It's time for another Poll!"

This should be simple (which means I have a good chance of understanding it ;) ): Do you HAVE to travel to your DVC Home at the same week (give or take a day) every year?

NOTE: If you CHOOSE to travel the same week, but don't HAVE to, please vote NO.

NOTE: If your week is Seasonal (Easter week moves, but you can only vacation during Easter week) vote YES.

Thanks!

WE do have flexibility, although we do stick to the school calendar, so we are limited to Easter week, Christmas week, and July and August.

I'd actually request a third option. Someplace between Yes and No:

While I could vacation in mid summer, it isn't a good option for us. I don't do well in heat. Hate crowds. Plus we have a smaller contract that stretches better in off times.

With hating crowds and the small contract, school vacations (Christmas/Spring Break) are out.

DH is in retail, making any time between Halloween and New Year's difficult for him to travel.

I'm not against pulling the kids from school, but do want to really limit it - so we won't take a week off willy nilly.

So we go when the kids have some time off in October. Pull them for three days, get seven. And since a lot of Minnesota parents pull their kids those three days, the teachers tend to teach around them.

I do have choices. I could bite the bullet and go when it is more crowded and/or hotter. I could pull the kids from school for more days. In a few years, I know we will bite the bullet and brave late August as missing three days of school in middle school will change the balance. But for now, these aren't great options to me. So I'm less locked in than Doctor P is, but I'm still relatively constrained.

Although we won't pull my oldest out of school for a vacation, we are fairly flexible otherwise.

We CAN vacation any time, but we chose to always go to WDW in the less crowded months.

This is one of the reasons I bought DVC> I could vacation any week I wanted.....(or even just for part of the week. My next stay is Wed-Sun)

Easy answer: We're Retired....:bounce:

That said, we choose to go mostly during the less crowded months also (with the exception of NYE which we thoroughly enjoy)

Nope we can pick and choose at will and actually enjoy travelling at different times of the year .

Because of our AP's, I intentionally schedule our trips one week earlier the following year. For example, I will buy new ones on Dec 4, we'll go in mid May, and then the end of November next year before they expire.

I actually have a third category. My DH works seasonal jobs so he can only vacation at certain times of the year, but it doesn't mean necessarily the same week as he might be done mid-Feb one year and mid-Mar another. Or start of Dec one year and start of Nov another. Depends on the snow.

He manages a golf course and then works another seasonal job in between.

I voted no, I do have a flexible schedule for most of the year.

It is more difficult for me to travel December through March; because at work our FY ends 12/31 and budgets and auditing take up the first Qtr. of each year. It is easier to travel any time but those months. If I did work a trip in during this time it would have to be a long weekend only.

My time is flexible, so I can travel whenever I want. I prefer Jan/Feb, but lately have been trying out other times of the year.

We always travel in Dec the first 2 weeks we just love WDW that time of year and have no plans on changing it. Our 3 kids love going that time of year also as they love the decorations.

Ok, I am one of those that needs "other". I am a teacher and I am kind of limited to when I can take a vacation, but the choices are pretty good for me. The choices are Christmas, Easter and summer. What *I* do is take my 2 Personal Business Days the first full week of December and then fly down on a Wed. night and stay until Sunday. DH and I do come down for Easter and then in the summer when the Drum Corp is playing at the Citrus Bowl. We also squeeze in a trip in Feb during our mid winter break that is a 4 day weekend.

Once we retire, we will be more flexible. Right now, I knew going in what my school teaching schedule would be and purchased enough points to cover me in the "High" season.

We are pretty flexible. Next vacation is December 19th and then we are planning on heading back this summer. While I am not against pulling a kid out of school we have not used this option yet.

We are fairly flexible in when we can go. It is mostly around school breaks, but we seem to get better breaks here in Oklahoma than some of the rest of you do. Our last day of school is May 19th this year. We will return to school about August 12th. We have a fall break that is the middle of October for 3 days but could take the kids out for a few more days if we wanted. Also will be getting out for Christmas December 21st and returning January 4th. Spring break is March 13th - 19th.

Although we have the time to travel during breaks, especially Christmas, my parents and in-laws would be very upset if we did. So of course we don't (at least not yet).

I am also not against taking the kids out of school for a trip, but since I don't seem to be able to go for less than 14 days I'm afraid that would be a bit to much school to miss.

So the way it stands I have the end of May, all of June & July and the first 2 weeks of August to choose from. I am very happy with our choices. I would love to be able to travel when it is cooler and there are less crowds but am not willing to make my trips shorter.

I will someday soon though take my princess to see Mickey for her birthday on December 23rd, even it her grandparents get upset with me.

DH Vacation schedule is flexible. He can go about anytime he wants to.

I have about 6 months out of the year that I have commitments that preclude me from going. However this leaves 6 months of the year that I can sneak away for 10 or 11 days each time. The six months of the year that I have other commitments change from year to year, never the same from month to month.
Still, the other six months give me the flexibility that we need.

So our vote is for "No", we can overall pretty much vacation when we want to.

princess:

We can pretty much go whenever with enough advance notice...we just need to plan around our "backups" schedules since we're fairly unique in our positions in our respective jobs. Well, we can plan whenever so long as wifey-poo gets the time accumulated.
