Must you do Kilimanjaro ride in a.m.?

I've read several Disneyworld books and hundreds of bulletin boards like this, but I get conflicting reports on this question: Is it best to ride the Kilimanjaro ride in Animal Kingdom first thing in the mornign ro does it really matter when you go? We went this past November, and we too had heard that morning was the best time. We decided to chance it and went just after lunch. Big mistake. All of the animals were sleeping - bummer. Two days later we were at AK right when it opened, then hot-footed to Kilamanjaro. Let me tell you what a difference that made! I think we saw every single animal there. Some were playing, some were just checking us out, but it really was a dramatic difference.

I agree with sheliap, if you want to see animals doing anything but sleeping go in the am. We where there in Feb. and went on first thing about 9:00 am and saw lots of animals a Giarffe even walked right across our path. My daughter loved that. We have been on this ride several times at different times of the day and the best time is am followed closely is sometime just around dinner time after the midday heat. Like the old saying goes "only maddogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun".

Just for info, if you simply can't get there at opening, another good time is just at closing. We have seen a lot of animals at this time, even the lions.

We went on the safari at about 5pm and saw loads of animals but the best ride we had was in fairly heavy rain, all the animals were out and it was brilliant.

I've had the best luck just after opening, just before closing, and in the rain...anytime!

We went first thing in the morning - we were the first ones in line, and the first one's on the ride, and I cannot believe we didn't see hardly any animals!! I too had read all the books and followed them for that ride and was very dissapointed. I think when I do all over again, I will go right before close.

We've done the AK on a Sunday afternoon on our trips in June 99 & 00. It was 4 or 5 o'clock both times and hotter then heck. Both times we saw quite a few animals. Our trip last year it was 98 degrees, and the vehicle was stopped for a few minutes-because the rhinos were in front of it and wouldn't move. Talk about up close! Another advantage was we walked onto the Safari both times-no lines at all. I've never been there in the morning, so I have nothing to compare it too, but late afternoon has worked well for us

We have always had the best luck late in the day. We asked a CM about this and were told that feeding time is right after park close. So most of the animals get out and start moving around and heading for the areas where they get fed at that time. The same is true for the tigers. We walked through the tiger path and all of the tigers were laying around sleeping. The CM told us to wait a few minutes and sure enough after about five minutes the tigers got up and started moving around looking for their dinner. We got a beatiful picture of a tiger staring at us from about 12 inches through the glass

last June family and I did the safari last thing. It was about 30 minutes before park closing. At that time, park closed at 7pm. We saw TONS of animals. One was within petting distance...but I knew better <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" alt="razz"> I was going to try and go first thing while I'm there, but I have a 8:30 PS at RFC, so I'll save it til right before close I think. Hope my luck continues.

I would think feeding times are the best times. Any park with live animals..they all will probably be sleeping or in the shade during the day time. When I go (probably a park hop with MGM) I will shoot for first thing in the morning or right before closing.
