Must I use the same guide to add-on? Was my guide deceitful?

I recently bought VGF direct as a new member. While I am pleased with the purchase overall, I feel that my guide was not entirely truthful. After surveying the threads, I am under the impression that my guide had a dogmatic disposition and did not have my best interest.

I purchased said contract a couple of weeks ago. At the time of drafting the agreement, the guide assigned me a February use year. Points for the 2023 year would be bought back by Disney and a rebate will be given, i.e. Magical Beginnings promotion. That all sounded great! However, I did not want the February use year as my family travels to WDW in November. When I asked my guide for a use year later in the year, he said it would not be possible. If he were to assigned a Sept or Oct use year, then I would be ineligible for the Magical Beginnings buy back rebate. Is this even true?

I was on a business trip overseas and didn't have any desire to interrogate him or dig any further into it. However, after surveying some of the threads on DIS Boards, I am beginning to feel hose. From what I am reading in other threads, had I pursued a used year for August or beyond, the Magical Beginnings promotion would have been applied to 2022 points; Instead, they were applied to 2023 February points. Essentially, I lost out a full year allotment of points. I'm I thinking correctly?

At any rate, what's done is done! I've moved on. However, I would like to buy additional contracts and take advantage of the current VGF promos. I have three kids and would like to leave a contract with each. That brings me to the following questions:

(1) Did my guide deceive me by insisting that the Magical Beginnings credit would not be applicable if I went with AUG-NOV use year?
(2) Did he shortchange me on a full allotment of points?
(3) If he was deceitful, may I change guides? I have no desire to continue business with such kinds of salespersons. It's my fault for not doing my due diligence, but I was also hoping to not be hosed.
(4) Can any of you recommend a guide? I read somewhere that is not allowed. If so disregard.

1. WTH. It absolutely would apply, if anything it would be better because you'd get to keep your 2023 points and you'd be selling back the 2022 points instead. Him putting it earlier made you lose the 2022 points which you would've gotten for free and instead had to sell the 2023 points to get the promo and ALSO don't have an ideal UY for your travel time. They may have to ask their supervisor for permission but usually they can do it if necessary.
2. As above.
3. You can absolutely change guides.
4. I have an OK relationship with my guide but I think others probably have better guides so I'll hold off on recommending mine.

Did the contract close yet? If not, contact MA and tell them what happened and you want a fall UY as it works better for you.

The guide was misinformed about MB program. Fall UYs are eligible.

I also suggest if you have evidence of him saying things are impossible (like a later use year or 2022 points weren’t being bought back) that you actually email MA and DVC management with the information. You are likely to get a response back via an email (and better yet a written letter) of your concerns.

He really shouldn’t have assigned February I’d you were clear you were traveling in November (September or October might have been best).

We just bought RIV with December use year and were offered the option of magical beginnings. Amil arroyo is our guide and has been nothing but amazing

I'm sorry your guide gave you misinformation :(

I added on in June, and I was going to add to one of my current contracts that had a March UY, however, when my guide found out I had another contract with an August UY, he recommended I add to that contract since I would get 2022 points for Magical Beginnings instead of only 2023 points if I added to my March UY.

I was grateful since now I have an extra year of points to play with.

My guides name is Jamil Saunders.

Now that's a good guide.

We just bought at VGF two weeks ago, our first direct contract. Our randomly assigned guide wanted to sell us a March use year, since that is the use year of our only existing resale contract. I asked for a December use year as we will likely most travel in Jan/Feb, the guide said that she would have to ask her manager, but it wasn't an issue really at all and that is what we were given. So we will get the MB rebate for 2022 points and still get our 2023 points in Dec. She did note that certain months that are earlier than Dec. would not be possible because she said we would have to complete the purchase before the point banking deadline for the 2022 points passed (which for December is end of July). She implied that this is a hard stop, i.e. that months whose 2022 banking deadline had passed could not be sold now. I thought I had perhaps heard otherwise on these boards, but also understand the deadline. So perhaps that is what your guide was referring to, that they couldn't give 2022 points if the banking deadline for those points had passed.

This is definitely not accurate. You can do MB until literally 3-4 days before the end of the use year.

For example, you can apply MB around May 20 for a June use year and they will take the 2022 points... (from personal experience)

Magical Beginnings needs to be completed 4 days prior to the end of a UY. You can buy 150 direct VGF points with an August UY on 7/27/23 and get the full developer credits while also selling your 2022 UY points back. You would also have 150 2023 UY points ready to book trips on or after 8/1/23.

DVC will bank points past a banking deadline for new direct purchases if you want to keep the current UY points and not sell back with Magical Beginning. Your guide should confirm this, but MS does it no problem. I've personally done it two times.

Agree since I also received 2022 points that were past the banking deadline.

what’s a couple of weeks ago, have you signed all necessary documents? are you within the rescission period?

I see that I may not have been given fully accurate information, but it appears some guides are inconsistent or otherwise encouraged to offer less flexibility. The banking deadline issue appeared to be something our guide did not want to push back against, and again didn't have to due to our Dec preference. Or maybe they are incentivized for selling later months which is less than forthright. So the OP should shop around for a guide willing to meet their needs. I did feel a little rushed in to our purchase and my lack of research led to losing out on the referral discount. Still felt that the current incentives were worth it though.

Thank you. Appreciate the input. I’m somewhat glad that I’m not misinterpreting things. On a mission now to reconcile this mess.

It has closed. Trying to reach a rep for further clarity on the issue.

Most of the conversations took place of the phone and recorded. I distinctly remember informing him that we always travel in November and December.

Thank you. I wish I could say that this were true as it would instill my faith back into the guide person. The logic you presented makes a lot of sense, but so many others are giving contradictory info. I wish there was more transparency with these sales pitches.

Great to know. Trying to get to the bottom of all this.
