It's "just a pretzel" but the pretzel in Germany is awesome, especially when it's paired with a tall grapefruit beer. Here's a little trick - only buy a pretzel if the display is full. If it's not, walk around or come back later. If the display is almost empty, wait for a CM to bring out fresh pretzels. When they're fresh and still hot, it puts Auntie Anne's to shame!
I love the Tipsy Duck in Love. It's a blend of Chinese iced coffee and black team, mixed with bourbon and topped with whipped cream. It tastes just like a Black Russian (okay, I'm throwing out a ton of culture here...) but it's delicious. Just don't watch them make it. They use Reddi-Whip and Jim Beam - sort of takes the "culture" and "magic" out of it. I believe they also have non-alcoholic.
My sister loves the croissant donut. It's very good. It's crunchy on the outside and so flakey and buttery on the inside. I swear one day I'll try it a la mode, but I'm always too full!
Ice cream in France is great. I tried the gingerbread gelato (seasonal) with chocolate sauce pressed on a brioche bun. It was good, but it had a strange aftertaste. I went back this past year and got candied pecan (seasonal) in a waffle cone. Very good, but not creamy enough. A lot of cinnamon. The waffle cone was delicious and fresh. Not sure why I always go with seasonal flavors - isn't ever flavor seasonal when you only go once a year?
The donut "beignet" at the French Bakery is very good. It's filled with a hazelnut cream, which tastes like nutella. It's very light and airy.
