I just got an iphone. Now I'm trying to load it up with must haves. The only things I put on it so far were for ebooks: the kindle, B&N e-reader, and stanza.

Anything others that you can't live without?

There's a new iPhone coming out next month. Why would you get one right now?

Because it was cheap ($50 refurbished). And to me this is the new iphone. I'm behind the tech curve, for sure.

Trillian or some other instant messaging app.

Where
(Great for locating something nearby, especially gas prices. I've found it to be surprisingly accurate.)

Weather Bug

Pocket Tunes (a paid app, so I can listen to my XM radio and other music through a home speaker dock.)

Pandora Radio (Love this too!)

Sky Dock (Requires purchase of the auto accessory, so I can listen to XM or anything else in the car. Newer cars probably don't need this as they are set up for iPhone connection.)

Sleep Machine Lite (I'm a person who needs a fan to sleep, and if the hotel has an iHome type player I cna have my fan through the speakers. : )

Grocery IQ (thanks to a DISer)
Sportacular - sport scores
Amazon Kindle
All recipes - recipe finder
around me - identify places around you
Dictionary
weather bug
hop stop
flickster
Nike & Ipod - running

I use "Around Me' a lot when traveling. It "drops a pin" on a map wherever you are -- then tells you where different things are -- Starbucks, Hospitals, Drug Stores, etc. Very useful!

Love, love, love the game, "Plants vs. Zombies". I think it cost $2.99.

Angry Birds. It's a very addictive game which can cause you to miss your stop on the bus!:lmao:

I like/love:

iRelax (various sounds to fall asleep to) - free and paid
Angry Birds (fun slingshot type game) - free and paid
Words with Friends (scrabble type game) - free and paid
iPeriod (helps track your cycles and fertility) - free and paid
GroceryIQ (grocery lists) - free
CameraOne (has zoom, sepia tone, black and white, etc) - free
Sporcle (trivia game)

And lots more I'm not thinking of right now.

Not to divert, but... I'm getting an iTouch. Do all these (and all, really) apps work on that, too? And once you pay for an app, that's it? Thanks!

Yes, iPhone apps, for the most part, work on iTouch. Unless they need GPS or the camera to work.

I can't live w/out the IMDB app. No more "where did I see that actor before???" while watching tv.

NY Times app is like having the actual newspaper.

Love the RunKeeperPro app - tracks and maps my runs with GPS, tells me every time I've gone another half mile and what my pace is, and plays whatever music or podcast I choose in the background.

I wouldn't be a runner without the C25K app (couch to 5K). Worked sooo well.

The flashlight app has come in handy an amazing number of times.

DD and DH are addicted to the game PocketGod - it's kind of stupid but apparently fun.

Visual Note lets you take pictures and make notes in categories. I use it for planning clothes shopping trips, for keeping track of things I see while out that give me ideas I want to remember later, etc.

BalancePro works like a ledger sheet - I use it to "virtual envelope" all my cash every month and never go overbudget anymore.

CrunchFu is so cool. You hold the iPhone on your chest and it counts your crunches, then graphs them and creates a workout program for you to follow. We also use PushUpFu, with an armband.

In addition to the kindle app, the regular Amazon app rocks. It has an "Amazon remembers" feature that allows you to snap a picture of anything you're thinking about buying. Amazon then searches for the same item in their warehouse and sends you an email when they've found it (usually within an hour.) With this feature alone, I've saved enough money over the past year to pay for the iPhone's purchase.

I'm sure I'll think of more. Enjoy your "new" iPhone!

I too love IMDB, Sit or Squat, twitter, facebook;unblock me, words with friends, I use Opera rather than Safari. I did pay for TSMania.
