Just starting our planning for a trip in spring to WDW. What are the big must do's and see's for 8 y/o's? They are boy/girl twins. Any shows we must see or events that we must do?

Gosh, there are SO many Must Do's. I don't think I could fit them here, but here's my DD8's favorites.

EPCOT!! She loves this park (I should say, she LOVES World Showcase) Do the Kidcots!
Festival fo the Lion King in AK.
Philharmagic
Beauty and the Beast
Pin Trading
The Boneyard at AK
Universe of Energy (She loves Ellen DeGeneres)
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Honey I Shrunk the Audience
It's Tough to be a Bug
AK Parade
Illuminations
Fantasmic
Wishes
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
SpectroMagic

Those are the Must Do's on my DD's list. Of course we do MUCH more than that, but we will not miss these.

adding:
Crush the turtle and soarin (both in epcot)
don`t forget to do one breakfast at Chef Mickeys!
eat lunch at Sci-fi diner (my kids both love it there)
dont forget to look for Devine in animal kingdom
Buzz lightyear ride in MK (you will end up on this ride many times! LOL)
Look for street performers in MGM, they r hysterical!
Don`t forget autograph books, it is disney you will meet characters everywhere!
Take time to breathe and slow down a bit and enjoy, you will have a much more enjoyable trip..............trust me, our first trip we ran to try and do everything in 8 days. Its impossible!
have a great trip!

I'd also include the

1) Tower of Terror (MGM)
2) The Rockin' Rollercoaster (MGM)
3) Everest (AK)
4) Front car of the monorail going from TTC to Epcot
5) Test Track (Epcot) if they are into cars
6) Mission to Space (Epcot) if they are into space and have strong stomachs
7) Splash Mountain (MK)

8 years old is SO perfect. You must do everything LOL.

You MUST go at their pace. If they are enjoying looking at something that seems insignificant to you, don't push them on to get to the next "real" thing.

You MUST hydrate them regularly.

You MUST have a show/late long lunch/ride around the whole park on the train etc around 2pm.

My 8yo wanted to (gasp) for-go the characters this time.

Planning is half the fun for me. Good luck!

I suggest a couple of things:

1. Get the Birnbaums Walt Disney World for Kids, and then let them be involved in the planning. My DD8 has practically read the cover off the book, and she has made us a detailed list of the things that she wants to do.

2. Plan on hitting the shows that were added for the YOAMD - Pirate Training with Capt. Jack Sparrow, Let's Have a Ball with Aurora, and Woody's Camp Cowboy. Kids get to participate in these shows.

Really everything applies. Kinda encourage (make) them do stuff they think is too little for them. My DS didn't want to do the princess meet & greet but it was one of the best things. They made a big fuss over him. Things like "Hello Prince" or "Bye handsome". It was great!!!
He also didn't want to do the Belle storytime. I made him sit down front with his little sis and low and behold he got picked to play Gaston!! The pics are priceless and he turned into a big ham on stage.

So PLEASE encourage them to be little kids for a little bit longer!!! Even if its not cool. Remind them that their friends aren't there to see.

Thank you all for your suggestions! It all sounds like fun! I guess I have to get to the book store and buy some books!

My understanding is that all of the new shows will be featured daily throughout YOAMD.
