Must do places to eat in WDW...

Another night another question.

I have been reading the Disney dining review thread and using the search function for certain places to eat but I feel we (the UK) as a nation maybe have different perceptions when it comes to eating out compared to our American counterparts.

I have compiled a list of places that I have found suit us as a family based on the menu (choices for everyone) my kids will be 7(girl) & 16(boy) when we go yet I still have a few evening meal places left to fill.

We are on the DDP and plan to use one credit p/p for breakfast and one credit p/p for evening meal, we are not planning on doing lunch but maybe use our snack allowance to give us a mid afternoon boost. We are only doing one 2 credit evening meal when we hope to do the dining with the princesses

What I want from you lovely people are your "must do" places to eat that may just end up in my final few slots! be as obvious as you want or maybe suggest something that's not one of the more popular ones BoG for example.

Surprisingly, I think Rainforest Cafe was the best meal we had on our last trip
That's our absolute must do - very disney, good service and great food - whichever chef cooked our steaks should have been somewhere very up market!

Earl of Sandwich is a good QS option if you do get hungry in DTD at lunchtime.

If you want a treat, California Grill is great.

For one credit meals - Teppan Edo in Epcot is our only "must do".

Decent meals have been at the Turf Club at SSR and Captains Grill at YC.

Two credits we Love Yachtsman Steakhouse and Hoop Dee Doo. Both are highly recommended.

Breakfast is very good at CRT never done dinner as the menu doesn't appeal.

It would help if you listed the ones you have on your list then we won't repeat them. BOG opens at 10.30 and is quick service credit for lunch so we did without breakfast and had an early lunch is one choice and WGPE is also quick service but a really good evening meal.

Jiko for me is superb but bit out of the way and 2 credits.

Also like pizzafari in animal kingdom and Wolfgang puck express in Dtd for quick service

Trepan ego is great for something different and a real show

We also highly rate liberty tree tavern for thanksgiving dinner in the evening

Maybe I have more American tastes as I would go totally the opposite to flortlebap
RFC really poor, worst steak of the trip last year and rubbish server.
E of S dry sandwhiches and poor value at around $5-6pp, wouldn't let us have drinks we could get everywhere else on DDP.
Cali Grill was one of the first meals we ever did on DDP about 5 years ago, looked forward to it for so long after reading all the reveiws, such a let down, poor meal & server.

So my advise is read the menus, a few reviews and choose where you think you might like, as it shows above the difference you can get from 2 people.

Places we don't miss on DDP:
Hoop Dee Doo, 2 credits but includes food, alcohol & tip. Nothing to pay extra. My kind of food there, Chicken & ribs
Grand Floridian Cafe.
Wulfgang Puck Express (CS)

We don't eat breakfast thankfully as a CS is not great for breakfast, TS is a poor use of a credit.

This year we really enjoyed lunch at Liberty tree tavern in the MK and Earl of sandwhich in DTD

Some of our must do's on every trip are breakfasts at 'Ohana & Trail's End. Dinner at Yachtsman, Narcoossee's & Teppan Edo.

I've not had the nicest food at Teppan Edo, average I would say. But the theatrics & the show are a class apart.

Our quick services are Captain Cooks at the Poly resort and Wolfgang puck at DTD.

We never use our credits for breakfast though, well having said that WGP does do a good breakfast and we normally do go there once or twice, but its normally a late breakfast!!!

Everyone has their favorites - look at the sites that have menus would be my suggestion, and read the reviews. We are very "American", but all GOOD food is a pleasant alternative to the poorer fare in many parks.

In no particular order, we love:
MK: Liberty Tree Tavern, lunch (big meal, can make late breakfast and get CS later, or a very late lunch and snack later). It is yummy!
BOG: an absolute have to CS or TS. But a bit hard to get into

HWS - Mama Melrose , Hollywood & Vine (breakfast & evening meal)

EP - Akershus (breakfast) & Biergarten

DTD - Paradiso 37, T Rex* , Planet Hollywood* & Rainforest Cafe

PR - Ohana

We did Rainforest cafe @ Niagra Falls and loved it hence our return, food was fine ( we are not overly fussy eaters - Nice burgers, steaks, pasta , chicken dishes covers us, me and mrs badger like curries, noodle dishes etc but the DD's don't )

T - Rex & Planet Hollywood are for the factor of saying we have dined there but are not set in stone and if i find something better/something gets recommended then I would ditch them even though the menu's appealed to us all. What would be the best Mexican place to eat? again one that suits all our tastes we thought about pepper market at coronado springs?



edit - just checked out teppen edo due to the numerous mentions, cant believe we missed that, bookmarked and added to the list to be debated! I for one say yes!

just back from 21 days of free DDP.

My recommandations, based on fresh experience, would be :

1TS : Bongo's Cuban Café at DTD (huge value for money, we got the Parillada de Marseco, a $40 entrée for 1TS, and the Cuban Tour ($30), ... finger licking good food ...)
* runner up : Ohana (dinner)
/ biggest let down : The Wave
- would avoid : Chef Mickey

2TS : California Grill
* runner up (tied) : Artist Point
/ biggest let down : Jiko
- would avoid : Fulton's Crab House

CS : Wolfgang Puck Express

Snack : Cinamon Roll from POFQ's food court.

1) Teppan Edo (but not exactly a "Disney" experience)
2) Sunshine Seasons (believe it or not, best "food court" in the "World" - or anywhere else I have been)
3) Kringla in Norway - yummy sandwiches and treats
4) Biergarten - good entertainment, and decent/good German buffet. Helps to avoid stress of ordering for picky eaters

DHS:
1) 50s PTC - watch out! Your American cousin will make you wash dishes if you put your elbows on the table! A real hoot, and also very good and filling
2) Brown Derby, but 2 credits - great grapefruit cake.

AK:
1) Flame Tree BBQ - exotic location, better food the RFC IMO
2) Boma's in AKL - BEST breakfast in the World by far. Great later buffet as well
3) Jiko's - excellent, Americanized African food, 2 credits (flat breads - awesome)

Other:
1) Flying Fish - Board Walk, but 2 credits
2) Hoop-DE-Do Revue - so much fun, pretty good grub - 2 credits


Note: Cinderella's table has pretty mediocre food. For better food and ALL the princesses, try Akershus in Norway for their Princess Breakfast. Includes phot as does Cinderella's.

Quite a nice selection overall and feel free to ignore my comments as everyone has different tastes so go with what you fancy.

For Mexican I would recommend La Hacienda- we have eaten there 3 or 4 times and always enjoyed it (but not the QS next door)

Teppan Edo is good for the cooking demonstration but personally I find the food a bit bland

My thoughts in purple

The Plaza - been several times but always for lunch - their menu is mainly sandwiches which we don't think of as dinner - have never used a TS credit there as most entree are only just over CS prices.

Crystal Palace - breakfast excellent, tried dinner but not a fan of dinner buffets. Food was ok but not sure we would return

AK - Tuskers & Rainforest Cafe (breakfast x 2)

Tusker House - excellent
Rainforest Cafe - never been as IMO is just a chain and bit expensive - wouldn't use a TS credit in there for breakfast

HWS - Mama Melrose , Hollywood & Vine (breakfast & evening meal)
MM - have been in 2 years but plenty of times before that and always had good meals. Used to do the Fantasmic Package until they changed the dessert and haven't been back since.
H&V - wouldn't eat there twice

EP - Akershus (breakfast) & Biergarten
Neither of these have ever appealed to use.

DTD - Paradiso 37, T Rex* , Planet Hollywood* & Rainforest Cafe
T-Rex & RC are owned by the same people so except similar food.
PH gets consistently bad reviews and would never be our pick
Paradiso - only been for drinks

PR - Ohana
Breakfast is great - we have been 3 times this year after our December trip. Dinner was really excited to get a last minute reservation last year and was so disappointed. Food and service was awful All the meat tasted the same and most of it was dry and chewy. Others love it however the reviews are for an inconsistent experience at best - we will not be going back though.

These are just our opinions so take them along with everyone else to make a judgement for yourselves.

We have found that if you are looking for a good meal for 1TS credit that the resorts offer the best options.

Restruant Marakesh and Mama Melrose are great - not overly busy either.

Hoop De Doo is good but you have to (especially if your on the earlier sitting) eat quickly!!!

Best QS would be Wolfgang Puck Express. Special mention to Olivia's as well - especially the Prime Rib!!!!

If you have young kids this list will work great TBH - we find the buffets are great and easy. Rightly or Wrongly we are always happy if the kids enjoy the food
