We ate at Rose and Crown and they have Mushy Peas on the menu. I hate peas and the thought of mushy ones makes me gag. But both of us were curious about how they were made and how popular they are. The waitress said she talks people into it all the time and then they want the recepie. She was nice and brought us out a small taste. I was terrified but they ended up being okay. :)

I don't know a thing about mushy peas, ecept they sound gross! But, I love the photo of your boxer! What a cutie!

Thanks. I adopted him in June and he is awesome. I lucked out!

omg....THANK YOU!!! I LOVE mushy peas, and don't get to eat them that often since I moved to this side of the pond almost 30 years ago!! Darn...I just made my ADR's this morning...now I'm going to have to go back and change them...!

That's funny because I just saw that on the menu this week and even though I like peas - I thought "eew". Are they like creamed peas? Or mashed?

basically, they are peas that have been dried. Then they are steeped in boiling water, and, well, boiled until they resemble a big green blob!! LOL they are what I would call, an acquired taste. While you might expect them to be sweet like garden peas - they're not. But they are great with lots of salt and gravy!

I'm with you, it sounds gross!

I don't like cooked vegetables anyway-except corn and sweet potatoes.

Thanks for explanation! Doesn't sound that appealing to me, but everyone's got their own special "tastes of home", right?:goodvibes

The waitress said they were mashed up with spices, mayonaisse and lemon I think.

It's funny you should say that. Because our local grocery store has a section to buy food that is more British than we are used to seeing here in NY. They have salad cream, digestive cookies (or something like that), and mushy peas in a can! It was right next to the Spotted Dick (I have no idea what that is, and I think maybe I don't want to know! :rotfl2::rotfl2:)

I had fish and chips with mushy peas in Dublin once at Harry Ramsden's, the chain that used to run the F&C shop at the R&C. It is an acquired taste to be sure, but I love the F&C, especially when accompanied by a Bass ale. :drinking1
