What can go wrong, will go wrong?

UGH!!

We leave for Disney this coming Saturday, 11/27 - in 5 days.

I am recovering from pneumonia and if that's not bad enough, yesterday i rushed DH to the emergency room and he had emergency surgery. Thank god the surgery went well and he is doing really well. The doctor agreed that we can go to Disney but said my DH is not allowed to go on any rides, even IASW.

This will be our fifteenth trip and we have no problems taking things slow - I know we will have a good time but it would just be so much better if these things didnt happen. And i know i will be worried about DH the entire trip - especially since he is already saying that he thinks he can go on the rides

I don't know what sort of surgery it was, and I hope for a speedy recovery for you both, but I would consider getting a second opinion. I would think that flying or sitting in a car for that long would cause more stress on every part of your body than going on IASW.

Maybe the doctor is thinking in terms of amusement park rides such as coasters and other rides that can jerk. I would think that rides such as IASW would be as gentle as a car or plane.

I am also one of those husbanhs that never admit I can't do anything!.We talk a good game,but when push comes to pull..we know safe limits!

Ack! That's rotten luck. How is going on IASW going to do anybody any bad? I would be like your DH and say I'm going on the slow rides. Hopefully you feel better too.

Good point. Again, I don't know the type of surgery. I was thinking more of the take off an landing being more stressful, depending on what the issue is. As for tripping, it could happen anywhere (like my girlfriend who can manage to trip over air). I would think to see how he is feeling when the time comes and if he is up to giving it a try, thats up to him. Since you are seasoned vets I'm sure you know plenty of things to do that are not ride oriented. In any case, have fun!

I just wanted to come on and give you a great big hug. I know it sucks all the things that have happened, but this trip will do you both so much good. Even if you sit at the hotel taking in the warm sun and atmosphere!!!

ok, i hadn't thought about all the questions when i initially posted.

we told him we have a trip to Disney and he said NO RIDES - we asked, "even its a small world?" he said no.

i don't want to outright say what type of surgery it was... but... i can say that i will have to buy him a cup to wear on the trip... and now if you figure that one out then you can realize why.

there are several rides with wheelchair accessible cars, where he just wheels right onto them. IASW is one of them. If he pushes the empty wheelchair when he walks, it will give him a place to sit in pre-shows/queues and for parades/ fireworks, and then he can wheel on to Buss Lightyear, Jungle Cruise, IASW, I think Pooh Bear, Great Movie Ride, Ellen's, etc. It may open up some new options for you. Also, it will give you a place to sit when you get tired (since pneumonia can be awful!)

I use a wheelchair fulltime, and transfer for very few things, and I have a great time in Disney!

(he should be able to do Soarin - you just walk up and sit down - no climbing required!)
