Ok, trying to pass the time until our trip....so I am reading everything "USF/IOA". Anyway starting to be obsessive LOL!

I ask these questions, with my DS (9) in mind, He has rode Big Thunder Mt, Splash Mt., Dinosaur, Test Track and Soarin (did great on them, and he was 8 at the time) Has not rode TOT, RNR or Space Mt. Wondering how he will do on Mummy and FJ.

Question 1: Is Mummy as intense as Space Mt.? I feel like I get thrown around alot on SM, is Mummy smoother? Is it scary?

Question 2: If someone has rode Dinosaur and Soarin, should they be okay on FJ?

Question 3: Should I start him off on a certain ride, then work up to the other ones? (build up his courage level)

TIA :flower3:

When DS was 5 he went on Space Mountain and was terrified. Unlike DL, space mountain in orlando has individual seats in front of each other instead of side by side. So he was pretty much sitting by himself behind me and in front of DH. Still refuses to go on it.

He's now 7 and last month he rode FJ and had a great time and while you do get tossed around a fair amount, you're strapped in fairly securely. He also rode the Mummy's Revenge, but it was fast, loud and dark. We all got tossed around and it wasn't as smooth of a ride. He pretty much kept his face in DH's armpit the entire ride. We pretty much avoid anything that goes upside down with him. He's enjoyed all the other rides your son has been on -- soarin, test track, splash mountain, big thunder railroad.

Mummy could be comparable to space mountain except there are a bit more effects and there is a more powerful launch in the beginning. It's dark so you can't see the drops easily, but there isn't anything too scary in there. Overall, I didn't feel like it was too intense although it was very loud. Others probably disagree.

Forbidden Journey is similar to Dinosaur with the animatronics, but the ride itself is much more intense. There are a few animatronics that are quite surprising and scary. Some kids may like it, others will hate it. If dinosaur presented absolutely no fear from your kids than FJ will probably be okay.
It goes fast and sometimes feels very high. At one point you are nearly upside down. Unlike Dinosaur, you spend about half the time in front of a simulator screen. It's better than any other simulator including soaring. Unless your kids are terrified at the thought of the ride, both are worth a try at least once. I would go with mummy first and then FJ.

We went to IOA and Universal last week during DD spring break. We have been taking her to WDW and SW/BG since she was an infant as we live in cenrtal FL. She is our little roller coaster and ride junkie. She will be 7 this July (She is very tall for her age, almost 51"). She has never met an attraction she didn't like-Rockin' Roller Coaster, Space Mountain, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror...that is until she went on Forbidden Journey. She has watched Harry Potter, 1-4, and we are even reading the books. There are some EXTREMELY intense scenes. The ride system itself did not scare her. She made it through the whole ride, but has requested not to ride it again for awhile. It is dark, dragons, spiders, and dementors seem to come after you. The queue is awesome, and she loved it. The ride itself, not at all. We attempted to get her on the Mummy, but when she was the preview of the beetles on the tv, she opted out, and we won't push it. Heading back to Universal/IOA this weekend...we shall see if she is willing to do FJ again. My best guess is nope.

Question 1: Is Mummy as intense as Space Mt.? I feel like I get thrown around alot on SM, is Mummy smoother? Is it scary? He should be OK on Revenge of the Mummy. I don't think it's as bad as Space Mountain (and SM isn't that bad) and is smoother.

Question 2: If someone has rode Dinosaur and Soarin, should they be okay on FJ? That depends on the person. I've heard lots of coaster people say they got sick after getting off FJ so it's hard to say one way or the other. You'll have to decide if you want to try it.

Question 3: Should I start him off on a certain ride, then work up to the other ones? (build up his courage level) I would start with Spiderman, Flight of the Hippograff and MIB before trying Revenge of the Mummy or FJ. See how he's feeling and make the decision then.
My answers above.

Space Moutain lasts about two and a half minutes. The roller coaster part of Mummy is maybe 30 seconds. Mummy is faster, but it's generally the same thing. Fast dips and turns in the dark.

Hi I have never been on the Mummy ride but just looked on Youtube and the ride itself looks ok but could someone tell me if its rats or bats that seem to appear on part of the ride. Sounded like rats but couldn't make it out as too dark. I totally freak :scared1: at the thought of them so this would put me off going on the ride and yeah I know they ain't real. :rolleyes1

They are scarab beetles.

I was wondering about those rides for my 'fearless' 7 and 10 year olds. I've done Revenge of the Mummy myself in California and was thinking I might let my 10 year old try it this time. But I know nothing about FJ. I'm also a bit worried about it for myself, mainly for the simulator part. I've never had a problem with simulators on anything else I've ridden, but really felt awful during the Simpsons rides.

I am prone to motion sickness, but I can tolerate FJ and Mummy without a problem. Simpson's is okay, but only once a day for me. As for kids, mine enjoyed Mummy although the 7yo did hide his face for parts.
