My middle daughter loves coasters. She went on RRR 4 or 5 times last year and RNR 4 times in May. She does not, however, like scary rides. She hated Dinosaur the two times she tried it and won't go on it again. She does like Escape from Gringotts and FJ, even though there are scary portions.

We've skipped Mummy and Kong because my impression of them both is that they're scary screen rides. But I was listening to Dis Unplugged and they were saying the Mummy is a great coaster. Is it more coaster or more like Gringotts? How would you rate the scariness? Closer to Dinosaur? Same questions for Kong. I would rather not watch the ride videos but will maybe break down.

Revenge of the Mummy is a roller coaster with tons of realistic effects.
I find it terrifying but then again I love to be scared.

I have not been on the new King Kong but when it was located where Mummy is located it was a tram ride with sets and real king kong not a screen.
I'd definitely consider it to be similar to Dinosaur.
As a child it was terrifying but like I said I love being scared.

I'm the child that was screaming with delight during Alien Encounter where most were screaming in terror.

Although I will say I cried on Jaws but that was because I was scared for my mom lol.

With Youtube you should easily be able to decide if they seem too scary for your child.

Mummy is even more of a coaster than Gringott's but has more realistic effects, not as many, or maybe even any, screens. There's a ceiling of fire:Pinkbounc The story might scare someone more than the story in Gringott's. Kong is pretty much screens with giant things from the screen flying at you and gigantic gorillas and dinosaurs. It could be scary though. The only real thing is the Kong animatronic at the end, which is an up close of his head.

Some of the King scenes are pretty violent, IMO. It's animated giant ape vs dinosaur violence, but it gets pretty brutal.

I'd classify most of Mummy as 'spooky' vs. 'scary'. There's nothing coming at you, but the fire effects could scare some, I'd think.

I don't think either Mummy or Kong have the 'sense of urgency' that Dinosaur has.

What scared her on Dinosaur? Was it the animitronics coming at you? The ride system? The panicked voice overs?

In our experience, the queue in Kong is scary and the ride is easy. The ride is nearly all screens - with various perilous sequences with monsters and cliffs.
For Mummy, the roller coaster part of it is quite a bit more of a coaster than Gringotts (thought the ride system is essentially identical.) I would say the scariness is similar to Dinosaur - more creepy and less jump-scare based.
It really is a great combination of dark ride and roller coaster and doesn't have a good ride for close comparison.
Personally, it is definitely a favorite.

Agree. I would also add for Kong, which is a favorite, that we rode both on the far left and far right sides and I found the far right side was more intense in one of the scenes. Without spoilers, there is, IMO, more grossness/freakiness (ugh-iness?) in what was coming at you there at one point; I had to look to the left, it was too much coming at me in 3D. All visuals can be also remedied by closing eyes, of course.

For Mummy, you don’t know what’s coming the first time you ride it, so there’s anticipatory scariness if that is a consideration. It’s definitely a coaster with fun dark ride moments. It’s my kids favorite, and one of mine, too.

Yes, it was the animatronics coming at her unexpectedly. Or at least that's what she said. It might be hard for her to quantify.

Thanks, everyone. I'm leaning towards having either DH or I ride them first since we have EP and deciding if they are going to be possible for DD.

Quantifying the scariness factor is certainly understandable.

Sounds like a good plan. You can do Child Swap with the EP, too. The Mummy EP queue is mostly just a dim walkway, nothing scary other than it being dark. The Kong EP line is also mostly a boring, dim walkway. There is a point where you can see into the standby queue and an animatronic that may or may not be scary. It's easy to ignore, though.
