I am just soooo sad and dont know how to deal with it...we found out this week after mum having a cold and loosing her voice that she has lung cancer. It is soooooooooo hard since I am in Canada and they live in Australia. She will go for a scope on Monday to see what kind it is and then she will be doing 7 to 8 weeks of chemo and radiation.Mum and Dad were meant to be coming for Xmas this year and I had to tell my DS5 that Nana was sick and was not able to come, but the Drs are going to help her.Now he wants to see her in March for his Birthday......She had a CT done and they say there is only the one leison on the left hand side, but they are doing another Ct scan....I feel useless and dont know how to help, she doesnt want me to come home as she says she wants to come here and is going to fight to get here to see her grandson again....feeling so lost right now,my best friend is avoiding me as I think she doesn't know what to say, hubby is being great as he loast his mum to Breast Cancer when he was 15 which was 22 years ago....I am not ready to say goodbye to her ...
I also do not get that this cancer did not come from her being a smoker,so they think it came from asbestos from a building she worked in or potting mix.....i also do not understand how she was fine 4 weeks ago...am just soooooooo sad, angry and confused...thanks for letting me ramble.

:grouphug:to you. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer after going to the doctor with a cough. I was terrified as I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer in late 2006 and knew the evil of cancer. He was diagnosed in May, had surgery in June, and is doing great. I couldn't believe it; I thought the worst when he was diagnosed. So keep hoping and praying; you and your mom are in my prayers.

Thankyou so much for your prayers,am trying to keep praying and hoping for a great outcome, going to get my dad to ask about surgery as it seems to be the way to go,but it seems the Dr they are seeing is all about chemo and radiation??
So glad to hear your dad is doing well and so sorry about the loss of your mum.

My dad just went through chemo and radiation (both treatments at the same time) . His cancer was due to smoking (he quit 15 years ago). His tumor was stage 3c and high in the lung so they could not remove it. We just got his CT scan back last week and the tumor is "immeasurable"!!
He'll have a PET scan in Dec. The docs were not all the optimistic but prayers and preservence brought us this far.

Hang in there and don't doubt the power of prayer and love!

Thankyou so much...we are praying alot and I am phoning everyday, sometimes 3 times a day.She started chemo on Thursday and did great with the first one.Her Dr is not very supportive so I am hoping she will go for a second opinion, she wants to fight and all he says is we are doing this to give you some relief and maybe keep you around a couple more months...grrrrrr it makes me mad, when you have someone who wants to fight and live and the Dr does not support this??She goes for a PET scan this week as well as chemo, they said they have to get a better pic before they start radiation...surgery is not an option...she gave up smoking over 20 years ago so this seems so cruel...
She has good days and bad with her voice, sometimes it sounds fine sometimes it seems so quiet, she said if it was not for her voice she would think she didn't have anything wrong with her,she is not coughing alot, not feeling tired, not really loosing weight...she said it seems very strange. She also said it felt like it was not her time to pass on,so the DR could just do his treatments and she would ignore the statistics...
Poohbear that is awesome news about your dad and gives me so much hope that she can beat this even if the odds are against her...

I'll keep your mom and you and your family in my prayers. If she's a fighter, that's good - it may help her through this - attitude helps!

Thank you so much even at 37 I am so not ready to loose her, even though we live so far away we are so close....
Prayers are very much appreciated.

As an Aussie your comments about asbestos and cancer make me worried, doubly so if she was not a smoker and the hospitals are not interested in aggressively treating it....

I consider myself lucky my father died of pneumonia shortly after his asbestos cancer (probably mesothelioma) was diagnosed when he also had no real cancer symptoms and it was just a chance x-ray for something else that picked up the traces.

By all accounts the mesothelioma (which is growing in diagnosis in Australia) is beyond brutal, and the noted Australian activist against these diseases and the companies who knew thier product was killing people but kept on making it, Bernie Banton (who would later die of it himself) would not even wish this cancer on the executives who deliberately stripped the compensation funds of thier money and left sufferers with nothing. If it is this cancer ( and the lung biopsy will prove it) then you need to do the reading and perhaps take that holiday to Australia.

I am so so sorry
