I am currently planning on using some of the great strategies that have been posted on this board to take the plunge with DVC! One open question is on use years.... For my first purchase (via a resale), I am planning on purchasing 100 points with a use year in August or September since I never plan on visiting during the summer months, I think that would work best from a banking perspective. My second purchase will be to add on 100 points at BLT. I assume from reading other posts that this "add on" purchase would automatically have the same use year as my resale purchase (correct)??

In case I decided to purchase two 100 point contracts via resale, how important is it to get the same use year? I am still a little confused about having multiple DVC accounts and transferring points...

And third, if decided to just go with BLT now, can I purchase 2 100 point contracts with a use year of September??

I want two contracts so that leaving one to each of my children will be easier...

:confused3

Thanks for all of your great advice!

When you add on through Disney, they will automatically give you the same UY.

If you buy multiple contracts via resale with a different UY, you will end up with two different member numbers and two different master contracts. This can make things a little difficult as you can not combine points for a reservation at 7 months without transferring points from one to the other. Not a huge issue except a member can only have one transfer (either in or out) per UY.

When contracts have the same UY, points can be combined at 11 months (if same home resort) and at 7 months (if not) without any types of transfer--a lot more flexibility for the owner.

Normally, when you buy as a new member through Disney, they require your first contract to be 160. I think if you want 2 100 point contracts as a new member, you would have to really fight to get them to do it but if sales are slow right now (and rumor has it they are behind expectations) you may be able to get them to approve it.

It never hurts to ask!!! I just added on at BLT (after buying a small resale at VWL) and am so excited about the new resort!!!

Good luck with your purchases!!!

We find having multiple UYs a pain. Harder to keep track of and MS doesn't know how to book using transfered points.
