Multiple Resources Allocated

I just called to confirm a couple dining reservations that were made months ago, and was told a couple of my reservations were going to be split into two tables because "multiple resources were allocated".

Does this happen often?? Anyone have experience with this? Obviously we would like to be together.

I haven't been told that ahead of time, but as a group of 8 one time we were split into 2 tables of 4. It does happen.

5 for one reservation and 6 for the other.

Tables for 11-12 can be hard to come by. I would expect to be split up at many places.

Sorry. I should clarify. One reservation for one place is for 5. They say the five will be split. Then we have one later in the week for 6 that they said will also be split. I was surprised because those are not large tables.

I would not worry about it. We have been split as a party of 9 or 10, but never as one of 6. It can happen, but I imagine it happens at the restaurant, and on that day based on staffing and business at the time.

The cast member on the phones may have been reading from a "script" to advise you what "may" occur.

That's what I'm hoping. She said it was up to the restaurant so maybe if we get there early we will be okay. Also, one member of our party is a one year old so she's basically a lap sitter anyways.

THe lap sitter does not really matter in regards to body count. You probaby will be seated at a table that can accomodate a high chair JIC.

It is entirely up to the restaurant, there is just no way to predict weeks in advance what will actually be occuring inside at the time you will be there. WE always try to check in 10 minutes in advance. Please do not worry about this, I think the CM was just giving a warning about what MAY occur, not what generally happens.

It is weird that a party of 6 would be told they would be split
At the Plaza though, it doesn't surprise me, that place is one of the smallest dining rooms, so the tables are much smaller.
As for parties being split up, it happens ALL the time, 90% of the time the resturaunt will have you beside each other and in the same servers section, but some of the time if it's a peak time, or they're crazy busy or something, you may end up not being near each other, especially depending on the size of the place, and potentially if the assignor is training, or having a tricky day, or if a table is camping out longer than expected, etc.

As for a "lap sitter" it doesn't matter, they still count, unless the baby is a newborn, strapped to someone's body, they still have to count that as a person, even if they're not eating.

As others have said, it can happen, but if it does, I do think the CMs will do what they can to put the two tables near each other. Just to note, I have gotten the message (when making a reservation online) about the party being possibly split up for a group of 3. So I think it might also be a function of how close to fully booked the restaurant is at that time.

I wouldn't have been slightly irritated if the message came through online, but the lady on the phone just mentioned it and I've had these reservations for months so I was very surprised.

I've received that message online for virtually every ADR I've ever booked... including a couple booked for 1. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

1) EVERY reservation says that parties may be split.
2) If it happens, just go-with-the-flow.
3) It is not the worst thing in the world to occur.
4) In the end, it is possible the eatery still might be able to seat your together.

1) Well, there is a REALLY good reason.
2) Those of us with a DINING OVERRIDE CODE can change any ADR at any time.
3) We can insert a party at any eatery, at any time, at any amount of diners.
4) Just an example: we could add a party of ten (10) into CRT, even if they are totally sold out.
5) I have seen insertions of up to 100 people per meal period via overrides.
6) The only exceptions are eateries that have capacity restraints, such as,

. . . Luau
. . . V&A
7) So, your ADR could have been "pushed back or aside" by an override.
8) If they need the tables, your group could be split among 1-3 tables.

NOTE1: Dining overrides occur EVERY DAY at almost EVERY popular eatery. We do it all the time. Usually the people are a) WDW General Managers and above, b) Disney/ABC execs of VP and above, c) Disney/ABC Marketing guests, d) Major celebrities, e) those guests we REALLY like. You won't know which Lobby Concierge have the code, as we don't advertise or admit to it. but there are usually 1-2 per resort. So be really nice to your lobby concierge, just-in-case.

NOTE2: When we insert a party, it pushes every other ADR back. Thus, the wait-time for YOUR ADR could be behind schedule by 20-40 minutes, and split among different tables. Sorry, but that is just the way things work in The Restaurant Biz.

NOTE3: Since Ogre (I mean Iger) took over, money counts and NOT the guest. If it generates more revenue and profit, it works . . . if not, don't do it. RoL is going to be 9-months to 12-months late, etc. They DO NOT CARE. It is called "make any excuse the public, because they will buy it." And, YOU are definitely buying it. Thus, if your ADR or hotel ressie changes, simple accept it, because you do not count as much as profit and Disney knows it.

Even an infant in an Ergo counts for the number of people on the reservation.


I don't make ADRs by phone but it's a typical message that the party may be split online. Even with a party of two.

The largest party I've ever booked was for 10 people and a birthday thing which wasn't mentioned because my son would have been extremely embarrassed. It was at Cape May and it was his first trip with his soon-to-be wife and her five year old daughter and my father and stepmother and my in-laws came along to meet the new members of the family for the first time. So we, of course, wanted to be seated together. I was also told the party could be split so we were prepared but when we checked in, I was told that there was a table for four and a table for six right to each other and those parties had their bills and were finishing up. And then fifteen minutes went by and those parties were still there (separate parties, not together). I was then asked if we wanted to be split up and I said we would wait.

So there's a reason you could be told your party could be split. There probably have been larger parties who show up to be seated and expect a table for their size and there isn't any and they want to be seated immediately. Disney has to cover their butts on everything so a "warning" is given out just in case.
