I was looking into buying into AKV's and was also looking at BLT. I was wondering how many people own multiple "homes". I know that you can add on additional points to your "home". I am really torn between the two.

We have 100pts. at AKV and we just bought 50pts. at BLT we like the two resorts and can stay a few days at two resorts

I thought that you had to buy 160 points to start??? How did you get 50 at BLT?

Once you are a member, you can add-on as few as 25 points if paying cash/credit card. Also, they had (may still) been allowing an initial purchase at AKV of 100 points.

Help me out here. I am new the DVC section of the Disboards and I am trying to educate myself on the DVC and hoping to buy next year. So lets say I purchase 160 points for AKV and 50 points for WL how exactly does that work? Does that mean I can split my stay and stay a portion at each resort? If anyone can put this into terms I can comprehend that would be great. LOL

TIA

You can use the 160 AKV points to book only AKV 11-months in advance, and use the 50 VWL points to book only VWL 11-months in advance.

You can combine both and book a 210 point stay at any DVC resort 7 months in advance.

By banking and borrowing your 50 VWL points, you could book a 150-point stay at VWL 11-months in advance.

I own multiple "homes" - five, to be exact. A lot of members will add-on points at one or more other resorts to be able to book using those add-on points at the 11-month window.

5??? How do you find the time to do that? And since you are a veteran member of DVC, would you recommend AKV? I have DS7, DS2, DS6days?

I love all my home resorts! AKV has a great exotic theme and provides a feeling of remoteness, even though you aren't that far away from all the magic. We love the savana view rooms which allow us to sit on our balcony and gaze at the animals. The main pool at Jambo House is very nice, and we expect the new interactive water play area at Kidani to be great too. We love eating at Jiko and Boma.

AKV offers a limited number of Concierge rooms (the only DVC resort to have them), as well as some point-saving value rooms. The 3-BR GV rooms are fantastic!

We own 200 pts. at SSR and we just added on 70 pts. at BLT. It works out great for us! We'll probably add on more to BLt, but 70 is a good starting point for now.

also price the resalers - there is some AKV out with resalers

then do an add on at BLT thru DVC.

if you go with a resalers you buy the points they have. If through DVC you would need to but the minium points (160 points I think)

I have looked at Ebay and there is a listing for 176 VWL for $79 per point, but there is not AKV. What are some other time sale resellers that are prominent with Disney? I would really like AKV with my three small boys.

We are multi-"Home" owners as well. We initially bought 300 pnts at AKV to be able to bring the whole family and then 150 pnts at VWL for just the 2 of us to go at Christmas. DW would like even more but I think we are done for a while but can;t wait to see the Hawaii resort point price.

:woohoo: I truly feel that I have the best of both "Worlds"! 150 points at BCV and 52 points at AKV. My wife refers to these as the Ying and Yang of locations, even though I'm not sure what she means by this. But as she explains it: At times I want to be close to parks and in the hustle/bustle - so we go to BCV. And at other times, primarily when it's just the two of us, we like the "remoteness" of AKV. We have decided we'll probably do anothe point purchase eventually and instead of a third location we will add on at AKV.

DW and I own have three homes (OKW, SSR, and BLT). It has been great to have multiple options but it also has created some challenges while planning a trip. If you don't want to change resorts mid-trip, you have to work the 7 month booking window to consolidate to one resort.

I'd encourage you to start with a contract that meets your minimum needs at the resort you want most to call "home." You may discover that is sufficient for you. You may discover that you don't have a need for more than one home since the other resorts you want might be easily bookable at seven months during your travel period. Learn the program with one home resort - then add on either at that home or others as you gain experience.

Multiple home resorts are going to be more difficult to plan around and manage - that doesn't mean people don't do it and aren't delighted with the results, but you may not need to add the complexity.

And many DVC members have discovered that they don't have nearly as many issues booking seven months out and switching as is often portrayed (and I'm a big fan of some version of "buy where you want to stay.")

We as well are multiple home owners. We started off with HHI and since then have added on with points at OKW, SSR and AKV. I don't think BLT is in our future because we are waiting for the GCV and Hawaii.

But one never knows what could be in a future if the right deal is offered...never say never!!!
